Automatic Dusk-to-Dawn Lighting Control

Product Overview

The Intermatic NE1C Screw-In Photo Control is designed to automate the operation of incandescent lighting fixtures. It detects ambient light levels to automatically turn lights ON at dusk and OFF at dawn, providing convenience and energy savings.

Important: This device is designed exclusively for use with incandescent light bulbs. It is not compatible with CFL (Compact Fluorescent Lamp) or LED (Light Emitting Diode) light bulbs.

Safety Information

  • Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before installation or servicing.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load rating of 150 Watts.
  • For use with 120VAC, 60 Hz incandescent lighting only.
  • Do not use with dimmers or other control devices unless specifically rated for such use.
  • Keep the photocell sensor clear of obstructions and artificial light sources to ensure proper operation.

Package Contents

  • 1 x Intermatic NE1C Screw-In Photo Control

Setup and Installation

  1. Turn Off Power: Before beginning installation, ensure the power to the light fixture is turned OFF at the circuit breaker or fuse box.
  2. Remove Existing Bulb: Carefully remove the existing incandescent light bulb from the fixture.
  3. Install Photo Control: Screw the Intermatic NE1C Photo Control into the standard incandescent light socket until it is snug. Do not overtighten.
  4. Install Light Bulb: Screw an incandescent light bulb (maximum 150 Watts) into the socket of the photo control.
  5. Positioning: Ensure the photocell sensor (the small clear lens on the side of the control) is facing an area that receives natural daylight and is not obstructed by the fixture itself or any other objects. It should also be positioned away from any artificial light sources (e.g., other lamps, streetlights) that could interfere with its operation.
  6. Restore Power: Turn the power back ON at the circuit breaker.

Operating Instructions

Once installed and powered, the Intermatic NE1C Photo Control operates automatically:

  • Dusk Activation: When ambient light levels fall between 1 to 5 Foot-Candles (FC), the photo control will activate, turning the connected incandescent light bulb ON.
  • Dawn Deactivation: When ambient light levels rise between 3 to 15 Foot-Candles (FC), the photo control will deactivate, turning the connected incandescent light bulb OFF.

There are no user-adjustable settings for light sensitivity on this model. Proper positioning of the photocell sensor is crucial for optimal performance.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Periodically inspect the photocell sensor for dirt, dust, or debris. Gently wipe the sensor with a soft, dry cloth to ensure accurate light detection.
  • Obstructions: Ensure that no new obstructions (e.g., growing foliage, decorations) are blocking the photocell sensor.
  • Bulb Replacement: When replacing the incandescent light bulb, ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before handling. Replace with an incandescent bulb of 150 Watts or less.
