Setup

  1. Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for storage or transport if needed.
  2. Initial Cleaning: Before first use, wash the pressure cooker body, lid, sealing ring, and cooking rack with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely. Ensure the vent pipe and overpressure plug are clear of any debris.
  3. Handle Assembly: The handles may require attachment. Use a medium cross-head screwdriver to securely fasten the handles to the pot and lid, ensuring they are firm but not overtightened.
  4. Sealing Ring Installation: Properly seat the sealing ring inside the rim of the lid. Ensure it is flat and evenly positioned to create a proper seal during cooking.
  5. Familiarization: Review the included instruction and recipe booklet for detailed guidance on specific cooking times and techniques.

Operating Instructions

The Presto 01341 Pressure Cooker is designed for efficient and fast cooking. Follow these steps for optimal results:

  1. Add Ingredients and Liquid: Place desired ingredients into the pressure cooker. Always add at least 1 cup (240ml) of liquid (water, broth, etc.) to generate steam. Do not fill the cooker more than two-thirds full for most foods, and no more than half full for foods that expand, such as rice or dried beans.
  2. Secure the Lid: Place the lid on the cooker, aligning the arrow on the lid with the arrow on the handle. Rotate the lid clockwise until the handles are aligned and the lid is securely locked. The cover lock indicator should be in the down position.
  3. Place on Heat Source: Position the pressure cooker on a suitable stovetop (regular, smooth-top, or induction). Use high heat initially.
  4. Achieve Pressure: As the cooker heats, steam will begin to escape from the vent pipe. The cover lock indicator will rise, and the pressure regulator will begin to jiggle or rock. This indicates that full pressure has been reached.
  5. Adjust Heat: Once full pressure is reached, immediately reduce the heat to the lowest setting that maintains a steady, gentle jiggling or rocking motion of the pressure regulator. Excessive jiggling wastes energy and liquid.
  6. Cook Time: Begin timing the cooking process according to your recipe.
  7. Release Pressure: Once cooking is complete, there are two methods for releasing pressure:
    • Natural Release: Remove the cooker from heat and allow it to cool naturally. The pressure will gradually decrease, and the cover lock indicator will drop. This method is ideal for foods that benefit from continued cooking, such as stews and roasts.
    • Quick Release (Cold Water Release): For faster pressure release, place the cooker under a cold water tap, allowing cold water to run over the edge of the lid (avoiding the pressure regulator and vent pipe). The pressure will release rapidly, and the cover lock indicator will drop. This method is suitable for delicate foods like vegetables.
  8. Open the Lid: Once the cover lock indicator has dropped completely, carefully rotate the lid counter-clockwise and lift it away from you to allow any remaining steam to escape safely.
