Introduction
The Texas Instruments BA II Plus is a financial calculator designed for business professionals and students. It performs common mathematical operations and a wide range of financial functions, including time-value-of-money, cash flow analysis, and advanced statistics. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your calculator.

Setup
Battery Installation
The calculator requires one CR123A battery, which is included. To install or replace the battery:
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the unit.
- Open the compartment cover.
- Insert the CR123A battery, ensuring correct polarity (+ and - terminals).
- Close the compartment cover securely.

Initial Power On
Press the [ON/OFF] key to power on the calculator. The display will show the last calculated value or a default screen. If the display is blank, ensure the battery is properly installed and charged.
Operating Instructions

Basic Operations
Perform standard arithmetic operations using the number keys and the [+], [-], [×], [÷] keys. The [=] key executes the calculation.
Second Functions
Many keys have a second function printed above them. To access these, press the [2ND] key (typically yellow) followed by the desired function key. For example, to access the [CLR TVM] function, press [2ND] then [FV].
Time-Value-of-Money (TVM) Functions
Use the TVM keys ([N], [I/Y], [PV], [PMT], [FV]) to solve problems involving annuities, loans, mortgages, and other time-value calculations. Input known values and then press [CPT] (Compute) followed by the unknown variable you wish to calculate.
Cash Flow Analysis
The [CF] key initiates the Cash Flow worksheet. Input the initial investment (CF0) and subsequent cash flows (C01, C02, etc.) along with their frequencies (F01, F02, etc.). After entering all cash flows, use [NPV] and [IRR] to calculate Net Present Value and Internal Rate of Return, respectively.
Amortization and Depreciation
- Amortization: Access the Amortization worksheet by pressing [2ND] [AMORT]. This function allows for the calculation of principal and interest paid over specific periods of a loan.
- Depreciation: The Depreciation worksheet ([2ND] [DEPR]) supports various depreciation methods for asset valuation.
Statistics Functions
The [DATA] key allows entry of data for statistical analysis. Use [STAT] to access statistical functions, including one- and two-variable statistics with linear, logarithmic, exponential, and power regression options.
Clearing Memory
- To clear all memory registers, press [2ND] [CLR WORK].
- To clear Time-Value-of-Money registers, press [2ND] [CLR TVM].
- For cash flow data, clear within the [CF] worksheet by pressing [2ND] [CLR WORK] while in the cash flow menu.
Key Features
- Performs profitability calculations, including Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for uneven cash flows.
- Dedicated Time-Value-of-Money (TVM) and Amortization keys simplify calculations for pensions, loans, and mortgages.
- Offers list-based one- and two-variable statistics with four regression options: linear, logarithmic, exponential, and power.
Maintenance
Proper care ensures the longevity and performance of your calculator.
- Cleaning: Keep the calculator clean and dry. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents.
- Storage: When not in use, store the calculator with its protective slide case to prevent damage to the screen and keys.
- Battery Replacement: Replace the CR123A battery when the display dims, the calculator behaves erratically, or fails to power on. Refer to the battery installation section for instructions.

Troubleshooting
- Calculator Not Turning On: Ensure the battery is correctly installed and has sufficient charge. Replace the battery if necessary.
- Incorrect Results: Verify all input values. Ensure the correct financial mode (e.g., BEGIN or END for annuities) is selected. Clear all memory registers ([2ND] [CLR WORK]) before starting new complex calculations to prevent interference from previous data.
- Display Issues: Check battery level. If the display is faint, replace the battery. If segments are missing, contact customer support.
- Unresponsive Keys: Ensure keys are pressed firmly. If specific keys consistently fail to respond, contact customer support.
