Troubleshooting:

Amazon Tap Doesn’t Respond to Requests

Amazon Tap doesn’t turn on or respond to your commands.

  • Make sure that you’re using the included power adapter. Other adapters do not provide enough power for Amazon Tap to turn on and work correctly.
  • Check that your device is connected wirelessly. If your signal is poor, try restarting your modem and router.
  • Turn your device off and back on again. Press and hold the power button until it dims (about 5 seconds). Then press the power button again.
  • If your Amazon Tap is still unresponsive, reset your device.
Amazon Tap Isn’t Pairing with Your Phone

  • Turn your device off and back on again. Press and hold the Power button until it dims (about 5 seconds). Then press the Power button again.
  • Check that Amazon Tap is charged. Low battery can cause issues with Bluetooth connectivity.
  • Move your phone closer to the Amazon Tap to reduce interference.
  • Use the Alexa app to clear your Bluetooth connections. Then, pair your phone to Amazon Tap again.
Reset Your Amazon Tap

If your Amazon Tap is unresponsive, or you want to erase your device settings, factory reset your device.

Tip: Having trouble with your Amazon Tap? Restart your device first to see if it resolves the problem. Press and hold the Power button until the button dims (about 5 seconds). Then press and hold the Power button again.
  1. Press and hold the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth button and Previous button until the light indicators turn orange, then blue (about 12 seconds).

    Question

How do I use the audio input on my Amazon Tap, and why does Alexa stop responding when a cable is plugged in?

    Answer

The 3.5mm audio port on the Amazon Tap is an audio input (AUX-in), not an output for headphones or external speakers. When you plug an audio cable into this jack, the Amazon Tap acts as a passive speaker for the connected device (such as a phone or MP3 player).

Because the device enters an external input mode when the jack is occupied, Alexa's voice responses and streaming features are typically bypassed or muted through the internal speaker to prioritize the wired audio source. To interact with Alexa again or hear her voice, you must unplug the audio cable from the back of the device.

If you were trying to connect the Amazon Tap to a larger speaker system, please note that the Amazon Tap does not support audio-out via cable or Bluetooth; it is designed to be the primary playback device.
