    Question

Why is the camera not showing when motion is detected on my Echo Show 5?

    Answer

If your Echo Show 5 (2nd Generation) is not displaying the camera feed when motion is detected, please check the following settings:

    • Check the Camera Shutter: Ensure the physical built-in shutter is not covering the camera lens. Slide it to the open position.
    • Microphone/Camera Button: Ensure the camera hasn't been electronically disabled. Press the mic/camera button on top of the device to ensure it is active (a red light bar indicates it is off).
    • Routine Configuration: Open the Alexa app and verify your Routine. Ensure the 'Action' is set to 'Show [Camera Name]' and that the correct Echo Show device is selected as the 'From' device.
    • Home Monitoring: Go to Settings > Camera on your Echo Show and ensure Home Monitoring is enabled if you are trying to use the device's own camera as a sensor.
    • Do Not Disturb: Swipe down from the top of the screen and ensure Do Not Disturb is turned off, as this can block automated screen activations.

    Manuals+ clarified question
    Question

Why is there a red line appearing under the time on my Echo Show 5 screen?

    Answer

The red line appearing at the bottom of your Echo Show 5 screen indicates that the microphone and camera have been disconnected. This happens when you press the microphone/camera off button on the top of the device.

To resolve this and remove the red line:

    • Press the microphone/camera button (the button with a circle and a slash through it) on the top of the device again.
    • The red line should disappear, and the device will resume listening for the wake word.

If the line persists, ensure the physical camera shutter is not stuck in a midway position, though the red line specifically refers to the electronic mute status.
