Product Description
- The “PIR” (later “device”) is typically used by caregivers to detect a person leaving their bed or room.
- The device can be mounted on a wall or above a doorway using the provided sticky pads or screws.
- Alternatively, the device can be placed next to or under the bed, facing where the person would leave the bed. This would then trigger the device as their feet hang off the bed.
- Caregivers are notified by visual and audible alerts (if enabled) and/or a notification via an external system, e.g., a wireless pager or wired call system.
- The operating environment is typically a bedroom at a family home or care facility.
Device Overview
INSTALLATION
- Please note: If a keyfob is not used, the device will need to be within arms reach in order to access the “Arm / Disarm” button (e.g. to clear alarms).
Mounting to a wall
- A wall mounting kit containing 2x wall screws and 2x sticky pads has been provided to attach the device to a wall.
- The back plate can be removed from the device and attached to the required location.
- The device can then be clipped onto the back plate.
- To remove the device (e.g., to change batteries), the tab underneath the device needs to be pressed towards the wall and the device slipped upwards to release it.
BASIC FUNCTIONS
Inserting Batteries
- When batteries are inserted for the first time, the “Alarm” and “Status” lights will illuminate alternately for several seconds while the internal PIR circuitry settles.
- Once both lights extinguish, the device is ready to use.
- Note: If the device has been turned off previously or batteries are allowed to deplete completely for an extended time, the device may require the “arm/disarm” button to be pressed briefly to “wake up” the device after fresh batteries have been inserted.
Turning the Device Off
- The device can be turned off by pressing and holding the “Arm / Disarm” button for 8 seconds until both lights illuminate. Release the button, and the “Alarm” light will flash rapidly while the device turns off.
- Press the “Arm / Disarm” button briefly to wake the device up.
- Note 1: The device will transmit a “Monitor Off” fault when turning off.
- Note 2: If the device is not going to be used for an extended period (i.e. several months or more) it is recommended to remove the batteries before placing it into storage in order to prevent leakage from the batteries.
Turning the Device On
- The device can be turned on by briefly pressing the “Arm / Disarm” button.
Arming the Device
- Hold the “Arm / Disarm” button for 2 seconds.
- The green “Status” light will begin to flash.
- After “15 Seconds,” the flashing will stop, and the device will now be armed.
- If the device sees any movement after this,s an alarm will be raised.
- Note 1: The green status light will blink every 6 seconds while armed.
- Note2: The device can also be armed or disarmed using an optional wireless keyfob.
Disarming the Device
- Once the device has been “Armed”, but before an alarm is triggered, it can be “Disarmed” by the caregiver to stop the alarm from being raised.
- Hold the “Arm / Disarm” button for 2 seconds. Both lights will illuminate briefly
- The device is now disarmed.
- Note: This is more practical when using the keyfob as the device can be disarmed from a distance when entering the room.
Movement Alarms
- The PIR sensor has a detection window of approximately 105 degrees horizontal by 45 degrees vertical.
- Movements within up to a “4 meter” distance of this window will trigger an alarm.
- When an alarm has been triggered, the red “Alarm” light will begin to flash every 2 seconds, and the caregiver will be notified via Alert-iTs SafelinkTM Radio or the wired nurse call output.
Resetting Alarms
- Hold the “Arm / Disarm” button for 2 seconds.
- The device will make a two-tone beep, and both lights will illuminate briefly.
- The reset signal will then be sent to any wireless receivers.
- Note: The alarm can also be reset using the “OFF / Disarm” button on the optional wireless keyfob.
Keyfob (Provided Separately)
- To arm the device, hold the “ON / Arm” button for several seconds until the PIR’s “Status” light begins to flash green.
- To disarm or reset the device, hold the “OFF / Disarm” button for several seconds until both lights illuminate briefly.
- The red light on the keyfob will flash while either button is pressed.
- When the keyfob’s batteries are empty, the red light will no longer flash when the buttons are pressed.
Battery Monitoring
- The device checks the battery condition every 5 minutes.
Battery Low
- When the device detects the battery is low, a “Low Battery” fault will be transmitted via Alert-iT’s Safelink Radio to any paired radio receivers.
- The “Alarm” light will begin to flash every 4 seconds.
- Note: The battery low fault can be suspended for 12 hours by holding the “Arm / Disarm” button for 2 seconds. This will temporarily clear the fault from the receiver for 12 hours.
Battery Very Low
- When the device detects that the battery is very low, a “Battery Empty” fault will be raised on the receiver.
- On the wired model, the wired output will be triggered.
- Note: The “Battery Empty” fault cannot be suspended.
INSERTING BATTERIES AND BATTERY SERVICE LIFE
The device operates using 2x AA 1.5V Alkaline (LR06) Batteries.
Install and remove the batteries as follows:
- (If wall mounted) Detach the device from the wall by unclipping the device from the rear bracket by pressing the clip on the underside of the device and sliding the device up.
- (If not wall mounted) Remove the rear battery cover by lifting the tab on the bottom of the rear case and sliding it down and off.
- Remove and dispose of the batteries as recommended by your local authority.
- Insert the new batteries.
- Reattach the battery cover.
- Battery life will vary between 1 and 2 years dependant on the frequency of alarms and how quickly alarms are responded to.
DEVICE SETTINGS
Some additional settings can be changed using the Alert-iT Profile Editor.
- Radio Address
- If multiple devices are used at the same location, each device needs to use a unique “radio address” between 1 and 126. The device is supplied with a random address which is printed on the devices labelling.
- We recommended only adjusting this if duplication on site occurs.
- Alarm / Status Lights
- These lights can be individually disabled if they are annoying the patient.
- Alarm / Reset / Beep Sounds
- These sounds the device produces can be disabled if they are annoying the patient.
- Status Indicator Light
- When the device is armed, the green status light will blink every 6 seconds to indicate it is armed.
- This indicator light can be disabled if it is annoying the patient.
- Monitor Off Fault
- When the device is manually turned off or if the device turns off due to low battery, a “Monitor Off” fault will be sent to the receiver. This fault notification can be disabled if not required. [Default: On]
- Alarm Timeout & Alarm Timeout Fault
- If a call alarm is left active on the device and not reset, after 30 minutes (default “Alarm Timeout” setting) the alarm will timeout to save power. This duration can be adjusted or set to zero to disable completely.
- Also, upon timing out, an “Alarm Timeout” fault will be sent to the receiver. This fault notification can also be disabled if not required. [Alarm Timeout Fault Default: On].
- Alarm Latching & Clear Delay
- As standard, when a call alarm is raised, it is required that the user attends to the device to reset the alarm.
- However, the PIR can be set to a non-latching mode, and the “Clear Delay” parameter can be configured to provide a non-latching alarm where each time movement is detected an alarm is raised, but is automatically cleared some time later.
CLEANING
- You can wipe the control unit, sensors, and cables with a damp cloth, neutral cleaning product, or mild disinfectant
