5.3 Initial Configuration (Quick Installation)

Follow these three steps for quick installation:

  1. **Fix the device:** Secure the device to the bracket with a tie (as shown in physical installation).
  2. **Connect to WiFi:** On your mobile device or computer, connect to the default Wi-Fi network of the Wavlink device (e.g., "WAVLINK-N").
  3. **Enter IP and set up:** Open a web browser and enter the default IP address 192.168.10.1. Follow the on-screen prompts to set up your wireless network, including choosing the operating mode (Router, Repeater, or AP) and configuring network settings.

6. Operating Modes

The Wavlink Outdoor Wireless WiFi Repeater supports multiple operating modes to meet various networking needs:

6.1 Router Mode

In Router Mode, the device directly connects to your main broadband network cable, providing internet access for companies and families. It can support up to 32 units connected simultaneously.

6.2 Repeater Mode

In Repeater Mode, the device extends the range of an existing Wi-Fi network. It wirelessly connects to your main router and re-broadcasts the signal, eliminating Wi-Fi dead zones. This is ideal for extending coverage to outdoor areas or distant parts of a property. Up to 32 units can be connected simultaneously.

6.3 AP Mode (Access Point Mode)

In AP Mode, the device connects to your router via an Ethernet cable and creates a new wireless network. This is suitable for schools, hotels, squares, and other large places where a wired connection is available but wireless coverage is needed. When using two outdoor repeaters (A and B) in Dual AP mode, A connects to the router with a network cable, and B is placed 100 to 300 meters away from A, allowing up to 64 simultaneous connections.

7. Maintenance

  • **Regular Cleaning:** Periodically clean the exterior of the device to prevent dust and debris buildup, especially around antenna connections.
  • **Firmware Updates:** Check the Wavlink official website for the latest firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and security.
  • **Cable Inspection:** Regularly inspect Ethernet cables and power connections for any signs of wear or damage.
  • **Environmental Protection:** Ensure the non-waterproof PoE injector is always protected from rain and moisture.

8. Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions:

  1. **Cannot access repeater settings (192.168.10.1):**
    - Ensure your device is connected to the Wavlink's Wi-Fi network.
    - Try resetting the device by pressing and holding the RESET button for 8 seconds.
    - Disable any ad-blockers or VPNs on your browser/device, as they might interfere with accessing the local IP.
  2. **PoE not working / Device not powering on:**
    - Check all cable connections between the device, PoE injector, and power supply. Ensure they are securely plugged in.
    - Verify the power supply is working.
    - If the PoE injector is faulty, it might be a factory defect. Contact support for assistance.
  3. **Poor signal strength or frequent disconnections:**
    - Ensure the device is installed in a location with clear line of sight to the main router (in Repeater mode) or the desired coverage area.
    - Adjust antenna orientation for better signal reception.
    - Consider upgrading to a model with higher range (e.g., AC1200 for longer distances).
    - Ensure the device is receiving at least three bars of signal from the main router for effective amplification in repeater mode.
  4. **AC600 vs AC1200 differences:**
    - AC1200 offers higher speeds (up to 867Mbps on 5GHz) and typically has 4 antennas and a Gigabit WAN port. AC600 has lower speeds (up to 300Mbps on 5GHz) and 2 antennas, with a 10/100Mbps WAN port. AC300 is 2.4GHz only.
  5. **Device resets automatically:**
    - This could indicate a power issue or a firmware problem. Ensure stable power supply. If the issue persists, try a firmware update or contact support.
  6. **Compatibility with Apple products:**
    - The device is generally compatible with Apple products as it uses standard Wi-Fi protocols.
  7. **No 4G/SIM card support:**
    - This device is a Wi-Fi repeater/router, not a cellular modem. It does not support SIM cards or 4G/5G cellular signals directly.

9. User Tips

  • **Optimal Placement:** For best results in Repeater mode, place the device where it can receive a strong signal from your main router (at least 3 bars) and still have a clear line of sight to the area you want to cover.
  • **Antenna Orientation:** Experiment with the angle of the detachable antennas to optimize signal direction and coverage.
  • **Wired Backhaul for Performance:** For maximum performance, especially in larger setups or high-bandwidth applications, consider using AP mode with a wired Ethernet connection back to your main router.
  • **Configuration via Mobile:** You can configure the device using your smartphone or tablet by connecting to its default Wi-Fi network and accessing the web interface via 192.168.10.1. No computer is strictly necessary for basic setup.
  • **Power Cable Length:** The PoE power supply allows for flexible cable lengths up to 60 meters, giving you freedom in outdoor placement.
