5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Scanning
The scanner operates in an automatic sensing mode. When a barcode is presented to the scanning window, the scanner will automatically detect and decode it.
- Ensure the scanner is connected to your computer and powered on.
- Hold the item with the barcode facing the scanner's window.
- The scanner will emit a light (e.g., red laser or white LED) and a beep sound upon successful decoding. The decoded data will be transmitted to your computer as if typed by a keyboard.
- For models with an adjustable head (e.g., NT-2016), you can adjust the scanning angle (up to 15 degrees) to find the most comfortable and efficient position.

5.3 Automatic Standby and Wake-Up
The intelligent infrared sensor allows the scanner to enter a low-power standby mode when idle and instantly wake up when a barcode is presented, optimizing energy consumption and operational readiness.
6. Maintenance
To ensure the best performance and extend the lifespan of your barcode scanner, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Regularly clean the scanning window with a soft, lint-free cloth. For stubborn smudges, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
- Cable Care: Avoid bending or twisting the USB cable excessively. Ensure it is not pinched or placed under heavy objects.
- Environmental Conditions: Operate and store the scanner in a clean, dry environment, away from extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, and excessive dust or moisture.
- Physical Protection: While some models feature an anti-shock design, avoid dropping the scanner or subjecting it to strong impacts to prevent damage.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your NETUM barcode scanner, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
7.1 Barcode Cannot Be Read
- Dirty or Unclear Barcodes: Ensure the barcode is clean, clear, and not smudged or damaged.
- Digital Barcodes: If scanning from a phone, computer, or tablet, ensure the screen brightness is sufficient and there's no glare. These CMOS-based desktop scanners are designed to read digital barcodes effectively.
- Unsupported Barcode Type: Verify that the barcode type is supported by your scanner. Some less common barcode types might require activation. If unsure, contact customer support with the exact barcode type.
- Distance/Angle: Adjust the distance and angle of the barcode relative to the scanner window for optimal reading.
7.2 Data Not Sent to Computer
- Connection Issue: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the scanner and the computer. Try a different USB port.
- Inventory Mode: If your specific scanner model has an inventory mode, it might store scans internally instead of transmitting them directly. Refer to your model's full manual for
