1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the HoldPeak HP-870P Power Clamp Meter. This intelligent digital AC/DC clamp multimeter is a portable 4000-counts device designed for electrical professionals and home applications. It offers a wide range of measurement capabilities including AC/DC voltage, AC/DC current, resistance, capacitance, frequency, diode, continuity, temperature, and NCV (Non-Contact Voltage). The meter can also be connected with a mobile phone via Bluetooth for remote monitoring and control within a 10-15m range.

2. Safety Information

4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation

The HP-870P does not include batteries. To install or replace batteries:

  1. Locate the battery compartment on the back of the meter.
  2. Use a screwdriver to open the battery cover.
  3. Insert the required batteries, observing correct polarity.
  4. Securely close the battery cover.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads

For most measurements, connect the test leads:

  1. Insert the red test lead into the VΩHz input jack.
  2. Insert the black test lead into the COM input jack.

For temperature measurements, connect the temperature probe to the T-COM and VIN jacks as indicated on the meter.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Controls and Display

  • Rotary Switch: Selects the desired measurement function (e.g., DC/AC Power, AC/DC Clamp, V/Hz, Temperature).
  • HOLD Key: Freezes the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • SELECT Key: Toggles between different measurement modes within a function (e.g., AC/DC current, °F/°C).
  • LIGHT Key: Activates the backlight for the LCD display.
  • CLEAR Key: Clears saved data or resets certain functions.
  • MAX/MIN Key: Records the maximum and minimum values during a measurement.
  • LCD Display: Shows measurement readings, units, and function indicators.

5.2 Measurement Functions

The HP-870P offers a comprehensive set of measurement capabilities:

5.2.1 AC/DC Current Measurement (Clamp)

Use the clamp jaws to measure current without breaking the circuit. Rotate the rotary switch to the "DC/AC CLAMP" position. Open the jaws and clamp around a single conductor. The display will show the current reading.

5.2.2 AC/DC Voltage and Frequency Measurement

Connect the test leads to the circuit. Rotate the rotary switch to the "V/Hz" position. Use the SELECT key to toggle between AC voltage, DC voltage, and frequency measurements.

5.2.3 Power Measurement (AC Power, DC kW, Power Factor, Active Energy)

Rotate the rotary switch to the "DC/AC POWER" position. Use the SELECT key to cycle through AC Power, DC kW, Power Factor (cosφ), and Active Energy (kWh) measurements.

5.2.4 Temperature Measurement

Connect the temperature probe to the T-COM and VIN jacks. Rotate the rotary switch to the "°F/°C" position. The display will show the temperature reading. Use the SELECT key to switch between Fahrenheit and Celsius.

5.2.5 Other Functions

  • Data Hold: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading.
  • Backlight: Press the LIGHT button to illuminate the display for use in low-light conditions.
  • MAX/MIN: Press the MAX/MIN button to capture the highest and lowest readings during a measurement session.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the meter with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasives or solvents.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in its carrying case in a cool, dry place.
  • Calibration: For professional accuracy, periodic calibration by a qualified technician is recommended.

7. Troubleshooting

If the meter does not function correctly, check the following:

  • No Display/Faint Display: Check battery installation and charge level. Replace batteries if necessary.
  • Incorrect Readings: Ensure the correct function is selected on the rotary switch. Verify test leads are properly connected and making good contact. Ensure the circuit under test is de-energized for resistance, diode, or continuity measurements.
  • No Response: Try turning the meter off and on again. If the issue persists, contact customer support.
