3.2 Betaflight Configuration

  1. Connect the GPS module to a desired UART port on your Flight Controller. For example, if using UART2, connect GPS TX to FC RX2 and GPS RX to FC TX2.
  2. Open the Betaflight Configurator. Navigate to the 'Ports' tab.
  3. Enable the 'GPS' option for the UART port you connected the GPS module to.
  4. In the 'Configuration' tab, enable the 'GPS' feature and select 'UBLOX' as the GPS protocol.
  5. After saving and rebooting the FC, power it on and check if the GPS icon appears in the Betaflight OSD or on the 'Setup' tab, indicating successful detection.

3.3 OSD Configuration

To display GPS information on your On-Screen Display (OSD):

  1. Navigate to the 'OSD' tab in Betaflight Configurator.
  2. Enable the desired GPS-related elements (e.g., GPS Satellites, GPS Speed, GPS Latitude/Longitude) to be displayed on your FPV feed.

Note: While satellites can often be seen and locked indoors (especially near a window), for accurate positioning and optimal performance, the GPS module must be used outdoors with a clear view of the sky. It is recommended to use Betaflight firmware version 4.3.0 or above for best compatibility.

4. Operating Instructions

Once the GPS module is correctly installed and configured, observe the LED indicators for operational status:

  • Red LED (Constant On): Indicates the module is powered on.
  • Green LED (Flicker): Indicates that the module has achieved a GPS lock and is actively positioning.

For accurate positioning, always operate the FPV drone or RC vehicle outdoors with an unobstructed view of the sky. The ceramic antenna should ideally be facing upwards.

5. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Foxeer M10Q 180 V2 GPS module, consider the following maintenance tips:

  • Keep Dry: Protect the module from moisture and water exposure.
  • Cleanliness: Periodically inspect the module for dust or debris and gently clean with a soft, dry brush if necessary.
  • Temperature: Avoid exposing the module to extreme temperatures outside its specified operating range (-40°C to +85°C).
  • Physical Protection: Ensure the module is securely mounted and protected from physical impacts during flight or transport.

6. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your GPS module, refer to the following troubleshooting guide:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
GPS icon not appearing in Betaflight.
  • Check all wiring connections (TX to RX, RX to TX, GND, 5V).
  • Ensure the correct UART port is selected and enabled for GPS in Betaflight 'Ports' tab.
  • Verify 'GPS' feature is enabled and 'UBLOX' protocol is selected in Betaflight 'Configuration' tab.
  • Confirm the FC is powered on.
No GPS lock or inaccurate positioning.
  • Ensure the module is used outdoors with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
  • Verify the ceramic antenna is facing upwards.
  • Allow sufficient time for the module to acquire satellites (Green LED should flicker).
  • Check for potential electromagnetic interference from other components.
Compass not working or showing incorrect heading.
  • Ensure SCL and SDA lines are correctly connected to the FC.
  • Verify the compass orientation setting in Betaflight (BF: CW 270° Flip if plug faces direction of flight and antenna is up).
  • Perform a compass calibration in Betaflight.
  • Keep the module away from strong magnetic fields or power lines.

7. User Tips

  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the manufacturer's website for any firmware updates for the GPS module or your Flight Controller, as these can improve performance and add new features.
  • Mounting Location: Mount the GPS module as far away as possible from noisy components like VTX (Video Transmitter) and ESCs (Electronic Speed Controllers) to minimize interference.
  • Antenna Orientation: Always ensure the ceramic antenna has a clear, upward-facing view of the sky for the best satellite acquisition and signal strength.

8. Warranty and Support

For any warranty claims, technical support, or further assistance, please contact the seller or the manufacturer directly. Keep your purchase receipt as proof of purchase.
