User Manual

Model: YM2103 | Brand: YOUNG

1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the YM2103 Rotary Game Saddle Seat Lift and Recliner Adjustment Mechanism. This high-quality steel mechanism is designed to provide reliable height adjustment and tilt functionality for various chair types, including home office chairs, workshop chairs, and gaming saddle seats. This manual will guide you through the installation, operation, and maintenance of your new chair component to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

2. Safety Information

  • Always ensure all fasteners are securely tightened before using the chair.
  • Do not attempt to modify the mechanism, as this may compromise its structural integrity and void any potential warranty.
  • Keep hands and fingers clear of moving parts during adjustment to prevent injury.
  • Ensure the chair is on a stable, level surface before making any adjustments or using it.
  • This mechanism is designed for use with compatible chair bases and gas lift cylinders. Using incompatible parts may lead to instability or failure.

3. Package Contents

Your package should contain the following items:

  • 1 x YM2103 Chair Adjustment Mechanism
  • (Fasteners for attachment to chair seat and gas lift cylinder may be included or sold separately, depending on your purchase.)

4. Setup Instructions

The YM2103 mechanism is designed for easy integration into compatible chair designs. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Prepare the Chair Seat: Ensure your chair seat has pre-drilled holes that align with the mounting points on the top plate of the YM2103 mechanism. Refer to the dimension diagram for hole spacing.

  2. Attach to Chair Seat: Place the mechanism onto the underside of the chair seat, aligning the mounting holes. Secure the mechanism to the seat using appropriate screws (not always included). Tighten all screws firmly but do not overtighten.
  3. Install Gas Lift Cylinder: Insert the top of your chair's gas lift cylinder into the central conical opening on the underside of the YM2103 mechanism. The cylinder should fit snugly into the mechanism's receiver.

  4. Attach to Chair Base: Connect the bottom of the gas lift cylinder to the chair's five-star base (not included). The cylinder typically slides into the central hole of the base.
  5. Verify Stability: Once assembled, gently test the chair's stability and ensure all connections are secure before full use.

5. Operating Instructions

The YM2103 mechanism features intuitive handle controls for various adjustments:

  • Height Adjustment: To adjust the seat height, pull the handle labeled 'LIFT' (typically the right-hand handle) upwards. While holding the handle, lift your weight off the seat to raise it, or remain seated to lower it. Release the handle to lock the seat at the desired height.

Figure 5.1: Side view of the mechanism, highlighting the adjustment handles and tension knob.

  • Tilt/Recline Adjustment: To enable or disable the tilt function, pull the other handle (typically the left-hand handle) outwards. Pulling it out will allow the chair to tilt, while pushing it in will lock the chair in an upright position.
  • Tilt Tension Adjustment: The round knob located at the front of the mechanism (as seen in Figure 5.1) controls the tension of the tilt function. Turn the knob clockwise to increase tilt tension (making it harder to recline) or counter-clockwise to decrease tension (making it easier to recline). Adjust to your personal comfort.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance will help prolong the life and performance of your chair mechanism:

  • Cleaning: Wipe down the mechanism periodically with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust and debris. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Fastener Check: Every few months, inspect all screws and bolts connecting the mechanism to the seat and gas lift. Tighten any loose fasteners to ensure stability and safety.
  • Lubrication: If you notice any squeaking or stiffness in the moving parts, apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the pivot points and springs. Avoid oil-based lubricants that can attract dust.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Chair not lifting/lowering Gas lift cylinder malfunction; Actuation rod disconnected or bent. Ensure the 'LIFT' handle is fully engaged. Check if the gas lift cylinder is properly seated and functional. Replace gas lift cylinder if faulty.
Chair not reclining/locking Tilt lock handle not engaged; Tilt tension too high. Ensure the tilt lock handle is in the correct position. Adjust the tilt tension knob counter-clockwise to reduce tension.
Squeaking noises Loose fasteners; Lack of lubrication on moving parts. Tighten all mounting screws. Apply silicone-based lubricant to pivot points and springs.

  • When adjusting height, stand up slightly to allow the gas lift to extend smoothly. When lowering, apply gentle pressure while lifting the handle.
  • Experiment with the tilt tension knob to find the perfect balance for your weight and preference. A looser tension allows for easier rocking, while a tighter tension provides more back support.
  • Regularly check the stability of your chair, especially after prolonged use or if you notice any unusual movement.
