Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and accuracy of your NF-909 device.

  • Cleaning Fiber Ports: Always keep the fiber ports clean. Use specialized fiber optic cleaning swabs and solutions to remove dust and contaminants before and after each use. Contaminated ports can lead to inaccurate measurements and damage to the device or fiber.
  • Dust Covers: Always replace the dust covers on the fiber ports when the device is not in use.
  • Battery Care: Recharge the device when the low voltage indicator appears. If storing the device for an extended period, ensure it is fully charged and consider removing the batteries if they are not rechargeable to prevent leakage.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use the provided carrying pouch for protection during transport.
  • General Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

User Tips

  • Fiber Cleaning is Crucial: Always prioritize cleaning fiber connectors and ports. Even microscopic dust can significantly impact measurement accuracy and potentially damage optical components.
  • Utilize Auto-Identification: For quick power measurements, rely on the power meter's auto-identification feature to detect the incoming wavelength, saving time and reducing potential errors.
  • Reference Power for Loss Measurement: When measuring optical loss, remember to set a reference power (REF button) at the source end of the fiber. This allows the device to calculate the attenuation accurately.
  • Battery Management: Keep the device charged, especially before critical tasks. The low voltage shutdown feature is a good indicator that charging is needed.
