Setup
Before operating the PS418D, ensure all connections are secure and the power source is correctly selected.
- Power Source Selection: The PS418D can be powered by either phantom power (9-52VDC) from a mixer or audio interface, or by a 1.5V AA/UM3 battery.
- For phantom power, connect the XLR output of the PS418D to a device providing phantom power.
- For battery power, open the battery compartment and insert one 1.5V AA/UM3 battery, ensuring correct polarity.
- Microphone Connection: Connect your condenser miniature microphone to the TA3F input connector on the PS418D.

Operating Instructions
The PS418D features a power switch and a low-cut filter switch for optimal audio control.
- Powering On/Off: Locate the power switch on the side of the unit. Slide the switch to the "ON" position to power the pre-amplifier. Slide to "OFF" when not in use to conserve battery life.

- Low-Cut Filter: The PS418D includes a switchable low-cut filter. This filter helps to reduce unwanted low-frequency noise, such as rumble or handling noise.
- To engage the low-cut filter, slide the filter switch to the "ON" position.
- To disengage the filter, slide the switch to the "OFF" position.
- The filter operates at 80Hz with a 12dB/octave slope.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the unit. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: If using battery power, replace the 1.5V AA/UM3 battery when the unit's performance degrades or it fails to power on. Ensure correct polarity when inserting a new battery.
- Storage: Store the PS418D in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Remove the battery if storing for extended periods to prevent leakage.
Troubleshooting
- No Power:
- If using battery power, check if the battery is correctly inserted and has sufficient charge. Replace if necessary.
- If using phantom power, ensure your mixer/interface is providing 9-52VDC phantom power and the XLR cable is functioning correctly.
- Verify the power switch on the PS418D is in the "ON" position.
- No Sound/Low Output:
- Check all cable connections (microphone to TA3F, XLR3M to mixer/interface) for secure fit.
- Ensure the microphone itself is functioning correctly.
- Verify the input gain settings on your mixer/interface.
- Excessive Low-Frequency Noise:
- Engage the low-cut filter switch to reduce rumble or handling noise.
- Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly to minimize environmental low-frequency interference.

User Tips
Based on general usage and common practices for similar audio equipment:
- Always ensure the correct power source is selected and active before connecting your microphone to prevent potential damage or unexpected behavior.
- When using battery power, carry a spare battery, especially for critical recording sessions, as battery life can vary.
- Experiment with the low-cut filter in different environments to understand its effect on your specific microphone and sound source. It's particularly useful for reducing stage rumble or wind noise outdoors.
