Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the Recent RS-589E Intrinsically Safe ATEX Explosion-proof Dual Band Two Way Radio. This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective use of your device. Please read it thoroughly before operation and keep it for future reference. For detailed technical specifications or software specific to your model, please contact the seller.

Safety Information

  • Explosion-Proof Rating: This device is ATEX certified Ex ib IIB T4 Gb, making it suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 explosion-proof environments. It is designed for use in harsh environments such as marine, chemical, and port operations.
  • Continuous Transmission: Avoid holding down the PTT (Push To Talk) button for extended periods (e.g., more than 1 minute) as this can cause the radio to overheat and potentially damage the amplifier.
  • Antenna Handling: Do not hold the antenna or mobile walkie talkie directly by the antenna during transmission. This can lead to poor antenna contact or damage to internal components.
  • Battery Replacement: Never replace batteries in flammable or explosive environments, such as gas stations or chemical plants, as electric sparks could cause an explosion.
  • Radio Station License: If the power of your device exceeds 0.5W, you may need to apply for a radio station license according to local regulations. Consult your local radio management department to avoid potential fines.

3. Charging Instructions

  • First Use: The new battery is typically in a low charge state. It is recommended to charge it for 4-6 hours before initial use to achieve optimal performance.
  • Charging Method: Connect the charger to a power source. Insert the walkie talkie (without shutting it down) into the charging dock or connect via USB for charging. Ensure good contact between the radio body and the charging pole.
  • Indicator Light Status: The indicator light will be red during charging and turn green when the battery is fully charged.
  • Reminder: Remove the battery promptly once fully charged to prevent overcharging, which can affect battery life.

Operating Instructions

1. Power On and Off

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button (usually located on the top of the device) for approximately 2-3 seconds.
  • After powering on, the screen will light up, accompanied by a prompt sound.

2. Adjust the Volume

  • Rotate the volume knob (usually integrated with the power button) clockwise to increase the volume.
  • Rotate counterclockwise to decrease the volume.
  • Adjust the volume according to the ambient noise for optimal listening comfort.

3. How to Make a Call

The RS-589E operates in a "press and speak" half-duplex mode, meaning only one party can transmit at a time.

  • Launch (Speech):
    1. Press and hold the PTT (Push To Talk) button on the side of the radio.
    2. Hold the walkie talkie vertically, with the microphone positioned approximately 2.5-5 centimeters away from your mouth.
    3. Speak clearly at a normal pace.
    4. Release the PTT button after you have finished speaking.
  • Reception (Listening):
    1. After releasing the PTT button, the walkie talkie automatically enters receiving mode.
    2. You will then hear the other person's speech.
  • Telephone Etiquette:
    1. Pause slightly before speaking to avoid interrupting the other party.
    2. After conveying key information, it is common practice to say "Done" or "Over" to signal that you have finished speaking and the other party can transmit.

Advanced Features (Model Dependent)

1. One-Click Frequency Matching/Copying

Some RS-589E models support a frequency duplication function:

  1. Bring two walkie talkies close together.
  2. Transmitter: Enter the menu and select "Copy" or "CLONE" mode.
  3. Receiver: Also enter replication mode.
  4. Press the PTT button on the transmitter, and the data will be automatically transmitted to the receiver.

2. Scanning Function

If you are unsure which channel the other party is using, you can activate the SCAN function. The walkie talkie will automatically cycle through channels to detect signals and will stop automatically when a signal is found on a channel.

3. Voice Control (VOX) Function

When the VOX (voice control) function is enabled, you do not need to press the PTT button to transmit. You can speak directly into the walkie talkie, making it ideal for hands-free operation.

Daily Maintenance

Cleaning

If the radio body becomes dirty, wipe it with a soft cloth dampened with a neutral detergent. Do not use alcohol, spray, or corrosive detergents, as these can corrode the shell.

Storage

When the walkie talkie will not be used for a long time, turn it off and remove the battery. Store the device in a dry and cool place.
