1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of your NETUM GD-80 Portable A4 Thermal Printer. Please read this manual thoroughly before using the device to ensure proper functionality and safety.

Important Product Note:

This printer is a paper-tray-less thermal printer. It does NOT support A4 thermal roll paper. It is specifically designed to work with A4 thermal fan-fold paper.

3.2. Internal Components

Key internal components include the Print Head, Closed Cap Induction sensor, Upper Shell, and Lower Shell.

3.3. Controls and Ports

  • Power Key: Press and hold for 3 seconds to turn on/off.
  • USB Interface: Connects to a charging bank or mobile phone charger for power and data transfer.
  • Open Key: Press the left and right buttons simultaneously to open the cover and change paper.

4. Setup

4.1. App Download and Connection (Mobile Devices)

To use the printer with your mobile device (iOS/Android), download the "Scan Print" app:

  1. Search for "Scan Print" in the App Store (iOS) or Google Play (Android).
  2. Alternatively, scan the QR code below to download the app.

Connecting the Device via Bluetooth:

  1. Long press the printer's power button until the blue light flashes.
  2. Open the "Scan Print" app on your mobile phone.
  3. For iOS devices, ensure Bluetooth is turned on.
  4. For Android devices, ensure Bluetooth and GPS are turned on.
  5. In the app, click the small printer icon in the upper right corner.
  6. Click to search for Bluetooth devices.
  7. Select "GD-80" to connect.
  8. Once successfully connected, a small green icon will be displayed in the upper right corner of the app.

Note: Do not search for the printer connection in your mobile phone's Bluetooth settings. Instead, turn on Bluetooth (and GPS for Android) and search for related devices directly within the "Scan Print" app.

4.2. Driver Installation (Windows)

To use the printer with a Windows computer, you need to install the driver:

  1. Download the "GD-80 Windows Driver" from the official website: https://fast.scandocs.net/scanprint/drive
  2. Turn on the printer and connect it to your computer via the USB cable.
  3. Locate the downloaded driver file and open it.
  4. Follow the on-screen prompts. Click "Install" and wait for the installation to complete.
  5. After successful installation, click "Finish" to exit the setup interface.

Note: Before installing the driver, temporarily turn off your computer's antivirus software. Ensure the printer is connected to a power supply and the computer, and is powered on during installation.

4.3. Driver Installation (Mac)

To use the printer with a Mac computer, you need to install the driver:

  1. Download the "GD-80 Mac Driver" from the official website: https://fast.scandocs.net/scanprint/drive
  2. Turn on the printer and connect it to your computer via the USB cable.
  3. Locate the downloaded driver file and open it. Click "open" and continue with the installation. Follow the prompts until you see "The installation was successful".
  4. Open "System Preferences" and click on "Printers & Scanners".
  5. Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  6. Select "GD-80 USB" from the list and click "Add".
  7. Complete the printer setup as shown in the configuration window.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Paper Installation

Follow these steps to load A4 thermal fan-fold paper into your printer:

  1. Open Cover: Press the left and right open keys simultaneously to open the printer cover.
  2. Prepare Paper: Take out the top layer of A4 thermal fan-fold paper, ensuring the printing side (black label side) is facing up.
  3. Load Paper: Insert the end of the paper into the printer, making sure it is exposed to the machine.
  4. Close Cover: Push the paper limiter against the edge of the paper stack and close the printer cap securely.

5.2. Printing Documents

Once the printer is connected to your device (via Bluetooth for mobile, or USB for computer with drivers installed) and paper is loaded, you can print various document types:

  • From Mobile App: Use the "Scan Print" app to select documents, photos, webpages, or templates for printing.
  • From Computer: Print directly from applications like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, web browsers, or image viewers.

6. Charging Instructions

  1. It is recommended to use a mobile phone charger with 5V/2A output for charging.
  2. Charge the printer fully upon first purchase.
  3. To maintain battery health, charge the device at least once every three months to prevent long-term natural loss of the lithium battery.

7. Maintenance

7.1. Cleaning the Print Head

To ensure optimal print quality, clean the print head regularly:

  1. Shut down the printer and open the paper cover. Remove any paper.
  2. Wipe the print head gently with a cotton cloth or cotton swab dipped in medical alcohol. Wipe from the center of the print head outwards.
  3. After cleaning, do not use the printer immediately. Wait one to two minutes for the alcohol to evaporate completely.

Warning: Do not touch the print head directly to avoid damage, especially after printing when it may be hot. Touching it can cause burns or damage to the print head.

7.2. Safety Precautions

  • The printer contains a built-in lithium battery. Do not use it in environments with temperatures exceeding 40°C. Keep away from fire and other heat sources. Avoid placing it in direct sunlight or enclosed spaces like a hot car.
  • Children should use the printer under parental supervision.
  • After charging, promptly unplug the charging cable to prevent overheating, short circuits, or fire hazards.
  • Do not expose the product to fire or water to prevent battery short circuits, fire, or burns.
  • Operating environment: 0°C-40°C ambient temperature, 30%-85% RH (non-condensing). Do not exceed the recommended temperature range.
  • If you suspect a problem with the battery, contact customer support for assistance.

8. Troubleshooting

Refer to the table below for common issues and their solutions based on the LED indicator status:
