2. Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your controller. Please follow these steps carefully. If you are unsure, consult a qualified technician.

Wiring Diagram and Connections:

Refer to the detailed wiring diagram below for connecting the controller to your electric folding car's components. Ensure all connections are secure and correctly matched.

Detailed wiring diagram for a brushless motor controller, showing connections for battery, motor, throttle, brakes, and other accessories.
Figure 3: Brushless Motor Controller Wiring Diagram
  1. Battery Connection: Connect the main positive and negative terminals of your 48V lithium battery to the corresponding power input wires on the controller. Ensure correct polarity.
  2. Motor Connection: Connect the three phase wires (usually thick yellow, green, blue) from the controller to the motor. Also, connect the Hall sensor wires (smaller wires, typically red, black, yellow, green, blue) if your motor has them.
  3. Throttle Connection: Connect the throttle unit to the designated throttle input on the controller. The throttle voltage range is typically 1.1V to 4.2V.
  4. Brake Connections: Connect the brake levers to the high/low brake level inputs. This allows the motor to cut off power when brakes are applied.
  5. Self-Study Wires: The controller features a 'self-study' function for phase angle detection. Connect the self-study wires (often two white wires) and power on the system. The motor will spin slowly. If it spins in the wrong direction, disconnect and reconnect the self-study wires. Once the motor spins correctly, disconnect the self-study wires.
  6. Other Connections: Connect any additional components such as display, lights, or speed sensors according to their respective labels on the controller.

Safety Note: Always ensure the battery is disconnected before making or changing any wiring connections. Incorrect wiring can damage the controller, battery, or motor.

3. Operating Instructions

Once the controller is correctly installed and all connections are secure, you can begin operating your electric folding car.

  1. Power On: Turn on the main power switch of your electric folding car. The controller will initialize.
  2. Throttle Control: Gently twist the throttle to accelerate. The controller will regulate power to the motor based on your throttle input.
  3. Braking: Apply the brakes as needed. The controller is designed to cut off motor power when the brakes are engaged, ensuring safety.
  4. Monitoring: If your system includes a display, monitor battery level, speed, and other relevant information during operation.

4. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your controller, follow these maintenance guidelines:

  • Keep Clean: Regularly clean the exterior of the controller to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can affect heat dissipation.
  • Check Connections: Periodically inspect all wiring connections for looseness or corrosion. Tighten any loose connections.
  • Avoid Water Exposure: The controller is an electronic device; avoid exposing it to water or excessive moisture.
  • Temperature Management: Ensure the controller is installed in a location with adequate airflow to prevent overheating, especially during prolonged use or high loads.

5. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your controller, refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Power: Check battery connections, battery charge level, and the main power switch. Ensure all power wires are securely connected.
  • Motor Not Responding: Verify throttle connections and functionality. Check motor phase wires and Hall sensor wires for proper connection. Re-run the self-study procedure if applicable.
  • Intermittent Operation: Inspect all wiring for loose connections or damaged insulation. Check for signs of overheating on the controller.
  • Motor Runs in Wrong Direction: If the motor spins incorrectly after initial setup, disconnect and reconnect the self-study wires to re-calibrate the phase angle.
  • Brakes Not Cutting Power: Check brake lever connections and ensure the brake sensors are functioning correctly.

If the problem persists after performing these checks, contact customer support for further assistance.
