2. Compatibility

Ensuring compatibility with your e-bike motor is crucial for proper display function. Varstrom displays support both UART and CAN communication protocols for Bafang and Tongsheng motors. Please identify your motor's protocol before selecting a display model.

2.1 Bafang CAN Bus Motors

This system is designed for the latest generation of Bafang mid-drive motors using the advanced CAN protocol, offering a stable data connection and full feature sets.

  • Compatible with: BBS01B, BBS02B, BBSHD, M315 (G340), M615 (G320).

2.2 Bafang UART Protocol Motors

This classic protocol supports a wide range of powerful Bafang hub motors and some older mid-drive models, ensuring reliable performance.

2.3 Tongsheng UART Protocol Motors

Optimized for the popular torque-sensing Tongsheng mid-drive series, this display features the latest firmware version and system.

  • Compatible with: TSDZ2B/TSDZ2, TSDZ8, TSDZ16 (250W-1000W models).

2.4 Tongsheng CAN Protocol & Modern Hub Motors

This is the new standard for the latest high-performance systems, including Varstrom's own advanced hub motors with torque sensing.

  • Compatible with: Varstrom 125XVH, 125EVH, 95EVH, and TruckRun RN04 torque sensor hub motors.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting the Display

  1. Choose a suitable position on your e-bike handlebar (typically near the left or right grip).
  2. Loosen the clamp screws on the display holder.
  3. Place the display on the handlebar and adjust its angle for optimal visibility.
  4. Securely tighten the clamp screws. Ensure the display is firm and does not rotate freely.

4.2 Wiring Connections

Proper wiring is essential for the display to function correctly. Refer to the specific wiring diagrams below based on your motor's protocol (UART or CAN) and ensure all connections are secure.

4.2.1 UART Protocol Wiring (5-Pin Female Round Connector)

  • Yellow: RXD (Receive Data)
  • Green: TXD (Transmit Data)
  • Orange: Display Lock Wire
  • Black: Ground

This diagram shows the wiring of the display cable coming from the 1T4 cable. Confirm your motor's cable has the same wiring diagram. If the wiring diagram is different, the display will not work.

4.2.2 CAN Protocol Wiring (5-Pin Female Round Connector)

  • Black: Black GND
  • Brown: Brown P+
  • Orange: Orange Key Signal
  • White: White CAN L

This diagram shows the wiring of the display cable coming from the 1T4 cable. Confirm your motor's cable has the same wiring diagram. If the wiring diagram is different, the display will not work.

4.3 Initial Power-On

After connecting the display, turn on your e-bike's battery. The display should power on automatically or by pressing the power button. Follow any on-screen prompts for initial setup, such as language selection or wheel size configuration.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic Functions

  • Power On/Off: Press and hold the power button (usually located on the display or a separate control pad) for a few seconds.
  • Change PAS Level: Use the '+' and '-' buttons to adjust the pedal assist level.
  • Cycle Information: Short press the 'M' or 'i' button to cycle through different information displays (e.g., ODO, Trip, Max Speed, Avg Speed).

5.2 Quick Keys

  • Turn on Headlights: Long press the '+' or 'power' button.
  • Activate Walk Assisted Mode: Long press the '-' or 'down' button.
  • 25KM Speed Limit Switching:
    • For most models: Press '+' and '-' buttons together.
    • For VD03/VD18MT: Press 'Power' and '-' buttons together.

Note: The Bafang DPC080/DPC010 display does not feature a quick adjustment function for the 25 km/h speed limit. According to EU regulations, electric bicycles are prohibited from driving on public roads at speeds exceeding 25 kilometers per hour.

5.3 Bluetooth and App Connectivity

Many Varstrom displays feature Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to connect to a dedicated smartphone app for enhanced control and data. The app can be used to customize motor settings, view detailed ride statistics, and integrate map navigation (on compatible displays like EKD01).

To connect:

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
  2. Download the official Varstrom or compatible Bafang/Tongsheng app.
  3. Follow the app's instructions to pair with your display.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the display screen and body with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents that could damage the screen or casing.
  • Water Exposure: While the displays are IP66/IP67 waterproof, avoid prolonged submersion or high-pressure water jets. Ensure the USB/Type-C port cover (if present) is securely closed.
  • Cable Inspection: Periodically check all cables and connectors for signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Ensure they are clean and free of debris.
  • Software Updates: If available, regularly update the display firmware via the smartphone app to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

  • Parts & Accessories (including displays): 1 month quality warranty.

Under Warranty:

  • If there is any quality problem within 6 months (based on delivery date), all warranty costs (repair cost, material cost, shipping cost, etc.) are responsible by the seller.
  • If there is any quality problem more than 6 months, not more than 12 months (based on delivery date), the repair cost and material cost are responsible by the seller, the shipping cost is responsible by the buyer.

Out of Warranty:

  • If the warranty period is exceeded, for products from our store, we can continue to provide after-sales service, but the cost will be responsible by the buyer. The exact cost depends on the specific issue.
