5. Setup & Installation

Careful installation and wiring are crucial for the proper functioning and safety of your FPV drone. Refer to the diagrams below for correct component placement and connections.

5.1 Physical Installation

  • Mount the ESC board at the bottom of your stack, followed by the FC board on top.
  • Use the provided M3*30 or M3*25 screws, nylon nuts, and silicone anti-shake pads.
  • The mounting holes are 30.5×30.5mm. If your frame requires 3mm holes, use the silicone shock-absorbing circles to reduce the 4mm holes to 3mm.
  • Ensure proper orientation of both boards as indicated by markings (e.g., arrow for forward direction on FC).

5.2 Wiring Connections

The TAKER F722 BLS 100A 8S Stack is designed for straightforward connections. The FC and ESC connect via a dedicated cable. Other peripherals connect to the FC.

Key Connections:

  • FC to ESC: Connect the FC to the ESC using the provided cable. Ensure motor signals (M1-M8), ground (GND), battery voltage (BAT), current sensor (CUR), and any other relevant signals (NC) are correctly aligned.
  • Main Power: Solder the XT90 power cable to the BAT and GND pads on the ESC. Ensure correct polarity.
  • Receiver: Connect your receiver (SBUS, PPM, RSSI, S.PORT) to the corresponding pads on the FC. Provide 5V power and GND.
  • GPS: Connect GPS module to a dedicated UART (e.g., TX4, RX4) on the FC, along with 5V and GND.
  • Video Transmitter (VTX): Connect VTX to the VTX pad, a UART (e.g., TX3 for SmartAudio/TrampHV), 5V, and GND.
  • Camera: Connect your FPV camera to the CAM pad, 5V, and GND.
  • LED Strip: Connect LED strips to the LED pad, 5V, and GND.
  • Buzzer: Connect the buzzer to BZ+ and BZ- pads.
  • DJI Air Unit: The FC supports direct plugging into the DJI Air Unit. Connect GND, 5V, TX2, RX2, and S.PORT as indicated in the wiring diagram.
  • USB Interface: Use the Type-C USB port for connecting to a computer for configuration.

Always double-check all connections for correct polarity and secure soldering to prevent damage to components.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Firmware Flashing

  • Download the latest BetaFlight Configurator software from the official BetaFlight website.
  • Connect the FC to your computer via the Type-C USB cable.
  • In BetaFlight Configurator, navigate to the 'Firmware Flasher' tab.
  • Select the correct board target (TAKERF722SE) and the latest stable firmware version.
  • Click 'Load Firmware [Online]' and then 'Flash Firmware'.
  • For the ESC, ensure it is running compatible BLHeli_32 firmware. This can typically be updated via the BetaFlight passthrough feature or a dedicated BLHeli_32 configurator.

6.2 Configuration (BetaFlight)

  • After flashing, connect to the FC in BetaFlight Configurator.
  • Ports Tab: Configure UARTs for your receiver, VTX, GPS, and other peripherals as per your wiring.
  • Configuration Tab: Set up your ESC protocol (Dshot600 recommended), accelerometer/gyro orientation, and other basic settings.
  • Motors Tab: Test motor direction and ensure they spin correctly. Calibrate ESCs if necessary (though Dshot usually doesn't require it).
  • Receiver Tab: Verify receiver input and channel mapping.
  • Modes Tab: Set up arming switch, flight modes (Angle, Acro, Horizon), and other auxiliary functions.
  • OSD Tab: Customize your On-Screen Display elements.
  • Blackbox Tab: Configure black box logging rates and parameters.

6.3 Pre-Flight Checks

  • Ensure all connections are secure and free from shorts.
  • Verify propeller direction and tightness.
  • Check battery voltage and ensure it's within the 3-8S LiPo range.
  • Perform a range check with your radio system.
  • Confirm arming and disarming functions work correctly.

7. Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically inspect the FC and ESC for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, or corrosion.
  • Cleaning: Keep the boards clean from dust, dirt, and debris. Use compressed air or a soft brush. Avoid using liquids directly on the electronics.
  • Firmware Updates: Keep your FC and ESC firmware updated to the latest stable versions to benefit from bug fixes and new features.
  • Component Check: After any crash or hard landing, carefully check all components, especially solder joints and connectors, for damage.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check main battery connection, XT90 connector, and ensure no shorts on the board. Verify BEC outputs.
  • FC Not Connecting to PC: Try a different USB cable, ensure drivers are installed, and try a different USB port. Sometimes a DFU mode flash is required if the FC is unresponsive.
  • Motors Not Spinning: Check ESC connections to FC and motors. Verify ESC firmware and configuration. Ensure arming conditions are met in BetaFlight.
  • Unstable Flight: Check propeller balance and direction. Verify FC mounting and ensure silicone dampeners are correctly installed. Review PID settings in BetaFlight.
  • Video Issues (FPV): Check camera and VTX connections. Ensure VTX is powered and on the correct frequency. Check for interference.
  • GPS Not Locking: Ensure GPS module is connected correctly, has clear sky view, and UART is configured in BetaFlight.

9. User Tips

  • Capacitor Installation: Always install the included low ESR capacitor on the main battery pads of the ESC. This helps filter electrical noise and protect the electronics, especially with higher cell count batteries.
  • Solder Quality: Use good quality solder and ensure clean, strong solder joints for all connections. Cold solder joints can lead to intermittent issues or component failure.
  • Cable Management: Route cables neatly and securely to prevent them from interfering with propellers or getting snagged during flight. Use zip ties or heat shrink tubing where appropriate.
  • Initial Setup: For first-time setup, it's often helpful to connect the FC to BetaFlight Configurator without propellers on the motors to safely test motor functionality and arming.
  • Heat Shrink: Consider using heat shrink tubing over exposed solder joints or connections on the ESC to prevent accidental shorts.

10. Warranty and Support
