4. Setup
4.1 Battery Installation
The ANENG SZ308 Multimeter requires one 9V 6F22 battery (not included) for operation.
- Ensure the multimeter is turned OFF.
- Locate the battery compartment cover on the back of the device.
- Slide or unclip the battery cover according to the arrow guidelines.
- Insert a new 9V 6F22 battery, observing the correct polarity (+ and - terminals).
- Replace the battery compartment cover, ensuring it is securely closed.
4.2 Connecting Test Leads
Connect the test leads to the appropriate input jacks on the multimeter:
- Insert the red test lead into the "VΩmA" jack for voltage, resistance, and small current measurements.
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) jack.
- For DC current measurements up to 10A, insert the red test lead into the "10A" jack.
5. Operating Instructions
To operate the multimeter, turn the central rotary dial to select the desired measurement function and range.
5.1 Measuring AC Voltage (V~)
- Connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack and the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the desired AC Voltage (V~) range (e.g., 200V, 750V).
- Connect the test probes in parallel across the circuit or component to be measured.
- Read the voltage value on the digital display.
5.2 Measuring DC Voltage (V=)
- Connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack and the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the desired DC Voltage (V=) range (e.g., 200mV, 2V, 20V, 200V, 1000V).
- Connect the red probe to the positive side and the black probe to the negative side of the circuit.
- Read the voltage value on the digital display.
5.3 Measuring DC Current (A=)
- For currents up to 200mA, connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack. For currents up to 10A, connect the red test lead to the "10A" jack. Connect the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the desired DC Current (A=) range (e.g., 2mA, 20mA, 200mA, 10A).
- Open the circuit and connect the multimeter in series with the load.
- Read the current value on the digital display.
5.4 Measuring Resistance (Ω)
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized and all capacitors are discharged.
- Connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack and the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the desired Resistance (Ω) range (e.g., 200Ω, 2kΩ, 20kΩ, 200kΩ, 2000kΩ).
- Connect the test probes across the component to be measured.
- Read the resistance value on the digital display.
5.5 Diode Test
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack and the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the Diode symbol (usually next to continuity).
- Connect the red probe to the anode and the black probe to the cathode of the diode. A forward voltage drop will be displayed. Reverse the probes; the display should show OL (Open Loop) for a good diode.
5.6 Continuity Test (Buzzer)
- Ensure the circuit is de-energized.
- Connect the red test lead to the "VΩmA" jack and the black test lead to the "COM" jack.
- Turn the rotary dial to the Continuity symbol (usually a speaker icon).
- Connect the test probes across the component or wire. If resistance is below a certain threshold (typically 50Ω), the buzzer will sound.
5.7 hFE Triode Test
- Turn the function dial to the "hFE" transistor gear.
- Identify if the transistor is PNP or NPN type.
- Insert the transistor leads (Emitter, Base, Collector) into the corresponding sockets on the multimeter's hFE test port.
- Read the hFE (DC current gain) value on the digital display.
5.8 Square Wave Output
The multimeter can generate a square wave signal for testing purposes.
- Turn the rotary dial to the Square Wave symbol.
- Connect the test leads to the appropriate output terminals (usually VΩmA and COM).
- Connect the multimeter to the device you wish to test with the square wave signal (e.g., an oscilloscope or another circuit).
- The multimeter will output a square wave signal.
5.9 Low Battery Indication
When the battery voltage drops below the operating level, a battery symbol will appear on the display. Replace the battery as described in Section 4.1 to ensure accurate measurements.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the case with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Keep the test leads clean and free of debris.
6.2 Battery Replacement
Refer to Section 4.1 for instructions on replacing the 9V battery when the low battery indicator appears.
6.3 Storage
If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent leakage and damage to the device. Store the multimeter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| No display or faint display | Low battery or no battery installed. | Replace the 9V battery (see Section 4.1). |
| "OL" (Overload) displayed | Measurement exceeds the selected range or open circuit. | Select a higher range or check for an open circuit/broken connection. |
| Incorrect readings | Incorrect function/range selected, poor test lead contact, or low battery. | Verify function/range, ensure good contact, replace battery. |
| No continuity beep | Circuit resistance is too high or open. | Check the circuit for breaks. |
