4. Setup Guide

4.1 Charging the Printer

  1. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the printer's charging port.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB-C cable to a compatible USB power adapter (not included) or a computer's USB port.
  3. The indicator light will show charging status. Ensure the printer is fully charged before first use for optimal battery life.

4.2 Loading Thermal Paper

The Marklife X8 printer uses thermal paper only. Do not attempt to use regular paper.

  1. Gently open the paper cover of the printer.
  2. Insert the thermal paper (folding or roll type) into the paper slot, ensuring the printable side is facing the print head.
  3. Adjust the paper guides to fit the width of the paper snugly.
  4. Close the paper cover securely.

4.3 App Installation and Bluetooth Connection

  1. **For Mobile Devices (iOS/Android):**
    • Download the official Marklife printing app from your device's app store (e.g., Apple App Store, Google Play Store).
    • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device.
    • Turn on the Marklife X8 printer.
    • Open the Marklife app, search for available devices, and select "Marklife X8" to pair.
  2. **For Computers (Windows/macOS/Chrome OS/Linux):**
    • For Bluetooth connection, ensure your computer has Bluetooth enabled and follow the pairing instructions in your operating system's settings.
    • Alternatively, connect the printer to your computer using the provided USB-C cable for a wired connection.
    • Install the necessary drivers or software from the official Marklife website if prompted by your operating system.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off

  • **Power On:** Press and hold the power button until the indicator light illuminates.
  • **Power Off:** Press and hold the power button until the indicator light turns off.

5.2 Printing Documents and Photos

  1. Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to your device (via Bluetooth or USB).
  2. Open the document or photo you wish to print on your device. The printer supports various file types including PDF, Word, Excel, TXT, and image formats.
  3. Access the print function within your application (e.g., "Print" option in a document viewer, "Share" then "Print" for photos).
  4. Select the Marklife X8 printer from the list of available printers.
  5. Adjust print settings as needed (e.g., paper size, orientation, number of copies).
  6. Initiate the print job. The printer will automatically feed the thermal paper and begin printing.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Print Head

To ensure optimal print quality, clean the print head regularly:

  1. Turn off the printer and disconnect it from any power source.
  2. Open the paper cover.
  3. Gently wipe the print head with a cotton swab lightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol.
  4. Allow the print head to dry completely before closing the cover and using the printer.

6.2 General Cleaning

  • Wipe the exterior of the printer with a soft, dry cloth.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

6.3 Storage

  • Store the printer in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Printer Not Turning On

  • Ensure the printer is fully charged. Connect it to a power source using the USB-C cable and wait for the charging indicator.
  • Try pressing and holding the power button for a few seconds.

7.2 Poor Print Quality

  • Check if the thermal paper is loaded correctly with the printable side facing the print head.
  • Clean the print head as described in the Maintenance section.
  • Ensure you are using high-quality thermal paper.
  • The printer resolution is 203 DPI; very fine details or high-resolution images may appear less sharp than on higher DPI printers.

7.3 Unable to Connect via Bluetooth

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and within range of your device.
  • Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on your device.
  • Restart both the printer and your device.
  • Forget the device in your Bluetooth settings and try pairing again.
  • Ensure the Marklife app is updated to the latest version.

7.4 Paper Jam

  • Turn off the printer immediately.
  • Gently open the paper cover and carefully remove any jammed paper. Avoid tearing the paper inside the mechanism.
  • Ensure the paper is loaded correctly and the paper guides are adjusted properly.

8. User Tips

  • For best results, use the official Marklife app for mobile printing, as it often provides optimized settings for the printer.
  • When printing from a computer, ensure the correct printer drivers are installed.
  • Keep a supply of thermal paper on hand, as this printer does not use ink cartridges.
  • The compact size and lightweight design make it ideal for travel; remember to fully charge it before long trips.
