3. Setup and Installation
3.1 Pre-Installation Checklist
- Ensure you have a compatible power supply (at least 500W recommended).
- Gather necessary tools: screwdriver, thermal paste (if CPU not pre-applied), anti-static wrist strap.
- Unpack components carefully, handling the motherboard by its edges.
3.2 CPU Installation (LGA2011-3 Socket)
- Locate the LGA2011-3 socket on the motherboard.
- Open the CPU retention mechanism by pushing down and out on the lever(s).
- Carefully align the CPU (Intel Xeon E5-2682 V4) with the socket, matching the golden triangle on the CPU to the indicator on the socket. Do not force the CPU into place.
- Once aligned, gently lower the CPU into the socket.
- Close the retention mechanism by pushing the lever(s) back into their locked position.
- Apply thermal paste to the CPU (if not pre-applied) and install a compatible CPU cooler.
3.3 RAM Installation (DDR4)
- Locate the four DDR4 memory slots on the motherboard.
- Open the retention clips on both ends of the memory slot.
- Align the RAM module with the slot, ensuring the notch on the module matches the key in the slot.
- Press down firmly on both ends of the RAM module until the retention clips snap into place.
- For optimal performance, install RAM in a quad-channel configuration as indicated in your motherboard manual or on the board itself.
3.4 Storage Device Installation (SATA & M.2 NVMe)
- SATA Drives: Connect SATA data cables from your storage devices (HDDs/SSDs) to the SATA 3.0 ports on the motherboard. Connect SATA power cables from your power supply to the drives.
- M.2 NVMe SSDs: Insert the M.2 NVMe SSD into one of the M.2 slots, securing it with the provided screw. The X99-XD4 supports dual M.2 NVMe drives.
3.5 Power Connections
- Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your power supply to the main power socket on the motherboard.
- Connect the 8-pin CPU power connector from your power supply to the 8-pin CPU power socket near the CPU.
- Ensure all power connections are secure.
3.6 Peripheral Connections
- Connect your monitor to your graphics card (if installed) or integrated graphics port.
- Connect USB devices (keyboard, mouse) to the USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O panel.
- Connect your Ethernet cable to the RJ45 port for network access.
- Connect audio devices to the audio jacks on the rear I/O panel.
- Connect internal headers for front panel USB, audio, and case fans as per your PC case instructions.
4. Operating Instructions
Once all components are installed and connected, you can power on your system. The motherboard will perform a Power-On Self-Test (POST). If successful, the system will proceed to boot from your installed operating system. Refer to your operating system's documentation for further usage instructions.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your motherboard and components:
- Keep your PC case clean and free of dust. Regularly clean dust filters and use compressed air to clear dust from heatsinks and fans.
- Ensure adequate airflow within your PC case to prevent overheating.
- Periodically check all cable connections to ensure they are secure.
- Update motherboard BIOS/UEFI and drivers as recommended by the manufacturer.
6. Troubleshooting
6.1 Common Issues and Solutions
- System fails to boot: Check all power connections (24-pin ATX, 8-pin CPU). Ensure RAM modules are properly seated. Verify CPU installation.
- Incompatible components: The motherboard may be incompatible with certain niche brands or ES/QS versions of CPU, RAM, or M.2 SSDs. Always confirm compatibility with customer service before purchasing third-party accessories.
- Insufficient Power: Ensure your power supply provides at least 500W and is from a reputable brand to adequately power all components.
- No display output: Ensure your monitor is connected to the correct port on your graphics card or motherboard. Reseat your graphics card if applicable.
6.2 Important Notes
- The color of the slot base plate may vary between production batches. This is a cosmetic difference and does not affect product functionality. Products are continuously optimized and upgraded.
- Due to manufacturing tolerances, please allow for a 1-3 mm difference in physical measurements.
- Display variations and lighting conditions may cause the product image to appear slightly different from the actual product color.
- The CMOS battery (CR2032) is not included and will be removed before shipment due to logistics regulations prohibiting its transport.
