5. Installation and Wiring
The JIKONG JK-BD4AxxS-6P/8P series protection board is designed for lithium battery packs ranging from 7 to 24 series. The specific wiring method varies depending on the number of cells in your battery pack. Always ensure all cables are connected correctly and securely before powering on the BMS.
5.1 General Wiring Steps
- Connect all balance cables to the battery cells.
- Insert the balance cable into the BMS.
- Connect the B- line (total negative electrode) and the P- line (total positive electrode) to the battery.
Before starting the protection board, carefully check that the balance cable is properly connected and that the P- and B- lines are correctly connected. Ensure the protection board is securely fixed to the battery pack. Incorrect connections can lead to abnormal operation or damage to the unit.

6. Operation Instructions
6.1 Device Activation
The BMS does not have a physical power-on control switch. It is designed for charging activation mode, meaning the charger voltage must be at least 2V higher than the battery voltage. After the battery assembly is complete, connect the charger to activate the protection board. Alternatively, if you have an optional display screen and button, you can activate the BMS by inserting the cable into the display interface and pressing the button.
6.2 APP Installation and Usage
The JIKONG BMS is controlled and monitored via a mobile application available for Android (minimum version 7 required) and iOS. Scan the QR code provided in the official manual to download the APP.

Once installed, connect to the BMS via Bluetooth. The APP allows you to:
- View real-time battery status (voltage, current, temperature, SOC, cycles).
- Modify protection parameters (e.g., overcharge/discharge voltage, overcurrent thresholds).
- Control charge and discharge switches.
- Access accurate time logging and alarm functions.

6.3 Parameter Setting
Detailed instructions for setting all parameters, including active equalization thresholds, protection voltages, and currents, are available in the comprehensive "Instructions for Setting Protection Board Parameters" document. It is crucial to configure these settings according to your specific battery type and application requirements to ensure optimal performance and safety.
7. Maintenance and Protection Features
7.1 Active Equalization
The BMS employs active equalization to transfer energy from higher-voltage cells to lower-voltage cells, maintaining battery consistency. Users can set the balance trigger voltage difference (mV) via the APP. When the voltage difference between any two strings exceeds the set value, equalization automatically activates. It deactivates when the difference falls below the set value. The default balance current is 0.4A, but can be adjusted based on battery capacity (recommended not to exceed 0.2C of battery capacity). If not needed, the balancing function can be turned off in the APP.

Figure 15: Excellent Balance Effect
7.2 Overcharge Protection and Recovery
The BMS includes standard overcharge protection. Users can set individual cell overcharge protection and recovery voltages in the APP. If any cell's voltage exceeds the set overcharge protection voltage during charging, the BMS will stop charging. Charging resumes when all cell voltages drop below the recovery voltage, preventing overcharging and cell damage.
7.3 Discharge Undervoltage Protection and Recovery
Standard undervoltage protection is provided. Users can set battery undervoltage protection voltage, recovery voltage, and automatic shutdown voltage via the APP. If any cell's voltage falls below the protection voltage during discharge, the BMS will stop discharging. Discharge resumes when all cell voltages rise above the recovery voltage. If any cell's voltage drops below the automatic shutdown voltage, the BMS will shut down to protect the battery.
7.4 Overcurrent Protection and Recovery (Charge/Discharge)
The BMS features standard overcurrent protection for both charging and discharging. Users can set continuous current, delay time, and release time via the APP, based on battery capacity and charger/load output. If the current exceeds the set value for the delay time, protection activates, and the BMS stops the respective operation. It resumes after the release time has passed. Note: Maximum continuous discharge current should not exceed the design value (60A/80A).
7.5 Overtemperature Protection and Recovery
Standard overtemperature protection for charging and discharging is included. Users can set charge/discharge overtemperature protection and recovery temperatures via the APP. If the BMS detects temperatures above the set protection value, the respective operation (charging or discharging) will stop. It resumes when temperatures fall below the recovery value.
7.6 Low Temperature Protection and Recovery
Standard low temperature protection for charging is provided. Users can set charge low temperature protection and recovery temperatures via the APP. If the BMS detects temperatures below the set protection value, charging will stop. It resumes when temperatures rise above the recovery value. For extremely cold environments, using the optional heating function is recommended to better protect the battery cells.
7.7 Short Circuit Protection and Recovery
The BMS is equipped with standard short circuit protection. Users do not need to set the trigger current. However, short circuit protection delay (µs) and recovery time (S) can be adjusted via the APP. If a short circuit occurs during initial charging or connecting a load, increasing the delay time may resolve issues caused by high instantaneous currents from the charger or load capacitance. The protection will clear after the set recovery time.
7.8 Emergency Switch
The emergency switch function allows the BMS to continue charge and discharge operations for 30 minutes even if issues like over-temperature, over-discharge, over-charge, or cell string drops occur. This provides a critical window for emergency use. Activate this function via the BMS control page in the APP.
7.9 Intelligent Sleep Function
The intelligent sleep function helps reduce the BMS's self-consumption. If the BMS is in standby mode (charging/discharging current less than 1A for 26 consecutive hours), it will automatically shut down. To reactivate, press the button (if available) or connect a charger.
8. Troubleshooting
This section provides guidance for common issues you might encounter with your JIKONG Smart Active Balance BMS.
- BMS Not Activating: Ensure all balance cables are correctly connected and the P- and B- lines are secure. Verify the charger voltage is at least 2V higher than the battery voltage for charging activation. If using a display, ensure it's connected and press the activation button.
- Protection Triggered (Charging/Discharging Stops): Check the APP for specific alarm messages (overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature, low temperature, short circuit). Adjust the corresponding parameters in the APP if necessary, ensuring they match your battery specifications.
- Short Circuit Protection During Initial Connection: If short circuit protection triggers when first connecting a charger or load, try increasing the short circuit protection delay time in the APP. This can help with high instantaneous currents from certain chargers or load capacitances.
- Battery Imbalance Issues: Ensure active equalization is enabled in the APP and that the balance trigger voltage difference is set appropriately. Verify the balance current setting is suitable for your battery capacity.
- Bluetooth Connection Problems: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device and the BMS. Restart both the APP and the BMS if connection issues persist.
- Heating Function Not Working: If the optional heating function is installed, check the temperature control switch in the heating circuit. Ensure it's a normally closed switch (45°C to 65°C recommended) and that the temperature is below the activation threshold.
9. User Tips
- Always double-check all wiring connections, especially balance leads, before applying power to the BMS to prevent damage.
- Regularly monitor battery parameters via the mobile APP to ensure optimal performance and identify potential issues early.
- Customize protection parameters in the APP to precisely match your battery's specifications and your application's requirements.
- For cold environments, consider utilizing the optional heating function to maintain battery performance and longevity.
- If experiencing unexpected shutdowns, check the APP for alarm history to diagnose the cause. The emergency switch can provide temporary operation in critical situations.
