4. Setup Guide

4.1 Powering the Device

The Smart Box can be powered in two ways:

  • DC Power Supply: Connect a DC 9V power adapter (external positive, internal negative, 5.5 x 2.1mm interface, >700mA) to the DC IN port.
  • USB Power Supply: Connect a USB Type-C cable to the USB port and a DC 5V, >1A power source.
  • Internal Battery: The built-in 2000mAh lithium battery provides over 3.5 hours of operation. Charge via the USB Type-C port.

4.2 Connecting Your Instrument and Audio Output

  1. Instrument Input: Connect your guitar, bass, or acoustic guitar to the "IN" input using a 6.35mm (1/4") unbalanced TS cable.
  2. Stereo Output: Connect the "STEREO OUT" 6.35mm (1/4") TRS interfaces to your amplifier, mixer, or audio interface for stereo sound.
  3. Headphone Output: For silent practice, connect your headphones to the "PHONES" 3.5mm (1/8") stereo TRS interface.
  4. External Control: Use the "EXP/FS" 6.35mm (1/4") TRS interface to connect an external expression pedal or footswitch for additional control.

4.3 Software and App Installation

To unlock the full potential of your Smart Box, download and install the companion software and mobile app:

  • PC Software (Sonic Manager): Visit the official SONICAKE website to download the latest version of Sonic Manager for Windows or macOS. This software allows for detailed tone adjustment, parameter setting, and IR/NAM file management.
  • Mobile App (Soniclink): Search for "Soniclink" on your device's app store (iOS/Android) and install it. The app provides convenient remote control, access to drum machine rhythms, and personalized tone control.

5. Operation

5.1 Basic Controls

  • VOL/VALUE Knob: Adjusts overall volume or parameter values depending on the selected mode.
  • EXIT Button: Returns to the previous menu or exits a parameter editing mode.
  • SAVE Button: Saves current settings as a preset.
  • GLOBAL Button: Accesses global settings and system parameters.
  • DRUM Button: Activates the drum machine function (rhythms available via app).
  • Effect Module Buttons (NR, FX1, DRV, AMP, IR, EQ, FX2, DLY, RVB): These 9 buttons illuminate to indicate the on/off status of each effect module. Press a button to toggle the module or enter its parameter editing screen.
  • Footswitches (Left & Right):
    • TUNER: Tap to activate the built-in tuner.
    • HOLD FOR LOOPER: Hold down to activate the 20-second phrase looper.
    • In performance mode, these footswitches can be assigned to control various functions, indicated by their multi-color light rings.

5.2 Using the Looper

To activate the looper, hold down the right footswitch (labeled "HOLD FOR LOOPER"). The looper allows you to record and playback up to 20 seconds of audio phrases. Refer to the on-screen prompts for recording, overdubbing, and playback controls.

5.3 Using the Tuner

Tap the left footswitch (labeled "TUNER") to engage the built-in tuner. The display will show your note and pitch accuracy. Tap again to exit the tuner.

5.4 App and Software Control

Connect your Smart Box to the Sonic Manager PC software or Soniclink mobile app via USB or Bluetooth MIDI for advanced control:

  • Tone Editing: Adjust parameters for all effects and amplifier models with a graphical interface.
  • Preset Management: Organize, save, and load presets.
  • IR/NAM File Management: Import and manage custom Impulse Response and NAM (Neural Amp Model) files.
  • Drum Machine: Access and control 100 different drum machine rhythms for practice.
  • Firmware Updates: Keep your Smart Box up-to-date with the latest features and improvements.

5.5 OTG Recording and USB Audio

  • OTG Recording: Connect your Smart Box to a mobile device (phone/tablet) using an OTG cable (not included) and the USB Type-C port to directly record your instrument's audio signal.
  • USB Audio Interface: The Smart Box functions as a 2-in/2-out USB audio interface. It supports Loopback (recording computer audio along with your instrument) and Re-Amping (sending a dry signal to the Smart Box for processing and re-recording).

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the exterior of the Smart Box. Do not use liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the device in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity.
  • Battery Care: For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently. If storing for extended periods, charge the battery to approximately 50-70%.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check the SONICAKE website or app for firmware updates to ensure optimal performance and access to new features.

7. Troubleshooting
