5.3 Bluetooth Pairing and App Connection
For Android Devices:
The KW901 supports Bluetooth 5.0 Dual Mode. For Android, you will typically pair the device via your phone's Bluetooth settings first, then connect within the app.
- Go to your Android phone's Bluetooth settings.
- Turn on Bluetooth.
- Search for available devices and select "KONNWEI" or "V-LINK".
- If prompted, enter the default password "1234". The device should show as paired.
- Open your chosen OBD-II app (e.g., Torque).
- Navigate to the app's settings (often labeled "OBD II Adapter Settings" or "Connection").
- Select "Bluetooth" as the connection type.
- Choose "KONNWEI" or "V-LINK" as the Bluetooth device.
- Exit the app completely and then re-open it.
- On the app's main screen, click the "Connect" button. The device should connect, and the app will display "ELM connection: Connected" and "ECU connection: Connected".

For iOS Devices:
IMPORTANT: For iOS, do NOT connect to Bluetooth in your phone's settings. Connect directly within the diagnostic app.
- Plug the KW901 into the OBD2 interface and ensure it's powered on.
- Open your iPhone's Bluetooth settings, but do NOT attempt to pair the device there.
- Open your chosen OBD-II app (e.g., OBD Auto Doctor, Accurate app).
- In the app, navigate to "Extras" (or similar settings menu).
- Select "Connectivity" and then choose "Bluetooth".
- Select "Bluetooth LE (5.0)" as the connection type. If your phone app shows Bluetooth 4.0, you can select that too.
- Click "Device" and choose "Konnwei".
- Return to the app's home page and click the "Connect" icon (often in the upper right corner).
- Wait approximately ten seconds for the connection to establish. The app should display "ELM connection: Connected" and "ECU connection: Connected".

6. Operation
Once connected, the KONNWEI KW901 allows you to perform various diagnostic functions through your chosen OBD-II app.
6.1 Key Functions
- **Read Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs)**: View both generic and manufacturer-specific codes, along with their meanings (over 3000 definitions in the database).
- **Clear Trouble Codes**: Turn off the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL), also known as the "Check Engine" light.
- **Real-time Sensor Data Display**: Monitor various parameters including:
- Engine RPM
- Calculated Load Value
- Coolant Temperature
- Fuel System Status
- Vehicle Speed
- Short Term Fuel Trim
- Long Term Fuel Trim
- Intake Manifold Pressure
- Timing Advance
- Intake Air Temperature
- Air Flow Rate
- Absolute Throttle Position
- Oxygen sensor voltages/associated short term fuel trims
- Fuel Pressure
- And many others...
- **Data Logging**: Record sensor data for later analysis.
- **Vehicle Information**: Access information about your vehicle.

7. Maintenance
- Keep the device clean and free from dust and moisture.
- Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
- Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the device yourself, as this will void the warranty.
8. Troubleshooting
8.1 Device cannot find the "KONNWEI" Bluetooth network
- Check if the adapter is powered on (press the button on the front panel).
- Verify the power supply of your OBD-II connector; it should provide 12-14 volts.
- Ensure the car ignition is in the ON position.
- Try turning off the ignition, removing the adapter from the socket, reinserting it, and then turning the ignition back on.
- Attempt searching for the Bluetooth network using another smartphone, laptop, or tablet to rule out device-specific issues.
8.2 Adapter disconnects during operation
- Ensure that high-power devices are not being charged through the cigarette lighter during adapter operation, as this can cause voltage fluctuations.
- Strong voltage surges in the car's electrical network can affect stability. Confirm the OBD-II connector outputs a stable 12-14 volts.
8.3 The adapter cannot connect to the ECU
- Some ECUs may require additional add-ons or an initialization code for correct connection. Many applications have a ready-made list of codes for various car brands.
- Try using different OBD-II applications, as they may utilize protocols differently to communicate with the ECU.
- Ensure that only one adapter application is running at a time on your device.
- Attempt the connection process again from step 1 (physical connection and Bluetooth pairing).
9. User Tips
- **iOS Connection**: Remember, for iOS devices, do NOT pair the device in your phone's main Bluetooth settings. Always initiate the connection directly from within your chosen OBD-II diagnostic app (e.g., OBD Auto Doctor, Accurate app).
- **App Compatibility**: While "OBD Auto Doctor" and "Torque" are commonly used, explore other OBD-II apps available on your device's app store to find one that best suits your needs and vehicle.
- **Firmware Updates**: Check the manufacturer's website or app for any available firmware updates for the KW901 to ensure optimal performance and compatibility.
