2. Safety Information

Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the machine:

  • Read and understand all instructions before operating the machine.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, to protect against flying debris.
  • Ensure the work area is well-ventilated, especially when engraving materials that may produce fumes.
  • Keep hands and loose clothing away from moving parts during operation.
  • Do not operate the machine if any components are damaged or malfunctioning.
  • Always use the Emergency Stop Switch in case of an unexpected event.
  • Disconnect power before performing any maintenance or adjustments.

3. Setup

3.1. Component Identification

Familiarize yourself with the main components of your CNC400 machine:

  • X-axis module: Controls horizontal movement.
  • Y1-axis module & Y2-axis module: Control vertical movement along the length of the machine.
  • Z-axis module: Controls vertical movement of the spindle/laser.
  • Control Box Assembly: Houses the electronics and interface ports.
  • Backplane module: The base plate for mounting materials.

3.2. Control Box Interface

The control box provides all necessary connections and switches for operating the CNC400.

  • Emergency Stop Switch: Immediately cuts power to the spindle/laser in emergencies.
  • Angel Eye Switch: (Functionality may vary, refer to specific software documentation).
  • TF Card Slot: For offline operation or loading G-code files.
  • USB Interface: Connects the machine to a computer for control software.
  • DC24V Power Connection: Main power input for the machine.
  • 500W Switch: Activates/deactivates the 500W spindle interface.

3.3. Initial Assembly and Connections

While the machine is designed for easy assembly, ensure all modules are securely fastened. Connect the control box to the main machine frame and ensure all cables are properly routed and connected. Plug the DC24V power adapter into the control box and then into a power outlet. Connect the USB interface to your computer.

3.4. Software Installation

The CNC400 uses a GRBL controller. You will need compatible software to generate and send G-code commands to the machine. Recommended software includes Artcam, Fusion360, EASEL, and Carveco Maker. Follow the software provider's instructions for installation and setup.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1. Material Preparation

The CNC400 can engrave a wide variety of materials. Ensure your material is securely fastened to the backplane module using clamps or other appropriate methods to prevent movement during operation.

4.2. Spindle and Laser Module Compatibility

The CK1 CNC400 kit does not include a 500W spindle motor or a 20W laser module. These can be added separately to expand the machine's capabilities.

4.3. Basic Operation Steps

  1. Power On: Connect the DC24V power supply and turn on the main power switch on the control box.
  2. Connect to Software: Launch your chosen CNC control software on your computer and establish a connection with the CNC400 via the USB interface.
  3. Load G-code: Load your prepared G-code file into the software.
  4. Set Origin: Manually or automatically set the X, Y, and Z origin points for your engraving project.
  5. Spindle Power-Off Function: The control box is equipped with a convenient spindle power-off function. When changing tools, simply press the designated button to safely stop the spindle operation, greatly enhancing operational safety.
  6. Laser Engraving Function: Laser engraving functions can be easily switched by inputting specified codes in the software. Refer to your software's documentation for specific commands.
  7. Start Engraving: Initiate the engraving process through the software. Monitor the machine closely during operation.
  8. Emergency Stop: In case of any malfunction or emergency, immediately press the Emergency Stop Switch on the control box.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your CNC400 machine:

  • Cleaning: Regularly clean dust and debris from the machine, especially from the linear guides, lead screws, and spindle area. Use compressed air or a soft brush.
  • Lubrication: Periodically lubricate the linear guides and lead screws according to manufacturer recommendations to ensure smooth motion.
  • Inspection: Check all connections, belts, and fasteners for tightness and wear. Replace any worn or damaged parts promptly.
  • Software Updates: Keep your CNC control software and GRBL firmware updated to the latest versions for improved performance and features.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Machine not powering on Power cable disconnected, power switch off, faulty power supply. Check power connections, ensure switch is on, test power supply.
Machine not connecting to software USB cable disconnected, incorrect COM port selected, driver issues. Verify USB connection, select correct COM port in software, install/update USB drivers.
Engraving is inaccurate or inconsistent Loose material, loose belts/fasteners, worn tools, incorrect G-code. Secure material, check and tighten all components, replace worn tools, verify G-code.
Spindle not rotating 500W switch off, spindle not connected, faulty spindle motor. Ensure 500W switch is on, check spindle connection, test spindle motor.
