5. Setup
5.1 Battery Installation
- Locate the battery compartment on the back of the NF-5101 detector.
- Open the battery compartment cover.
- Insert one 6F22 DC9V battery, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
- Close the battery compartment cover securely.
5.2 Initial Calibration
The NF-5101 features automatic calibration. For best results, calibrate the device before each use or when switching detection modes.
- Press the Power button to turn on the device.
- Place the detector flat against the wall surface where you intend to scan, ensuring no objects are directly beneath the sensor area.
- The display will show a yellow screen indicating "In calibration...".
- Wait for the screen to turn green, indicating "Calibration complete". The device is now ready for use.

6. Operating Instructions
6.1 Selecting Detection Mode
Press the 'MODE' button to cycle through the available detection modes:
- Wood Detection: For locating wooden studs and beams.
- Cable Detection: For detecting live AC power cables.
- Metal Detection: For finding magnetic and non-magnetic metals.

6.2 Scanning and Detection
- After selecting the desired mode and completing calibration (green screen), slowly move the detector across the surface in a straight line.
- Maintain firm, even contact with the wall. Do not lift or tilt the device during scanning.
- As the detector approaches a hidden object, the signal strength indicator on the LCD will increase, and an audible alarm may sound. The screen color will change to red, indicating "Target detected".
- To pinpoint the center of a stud or object, continue scanning past the peak signal, then reverse direction. Mark the points where the signal begins and ends. The center of the object is typically midway between these two points.

6.3 Interpreting the Display
- Yellow Screen: Indicates the device is in calibration or the detection mode is not yet calibrated.
- Green Screen: Indicates calibration is complete and the device is ready for detection, or no target is currently detected.
- Red Screen: Indicates a target has been detected. The signal strength bars will show proximity and size.
- Battery Icon: Displays the current battery level. Replace the battery when it is low.

7. Maintenance
- Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Store the detector in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- Remove the battery if the device will not be used for an extended period to prevent leakage.
- Keep the sensor area clean and free from dust or debris for optimal performance.
8. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Device does not turn on | Low or dead battery; Incorrect battery installation | Replace battery; Check battery polarity |
| Inaccurate readings or no detection | Improper calibration; High humidity or conductive surfaces; Fast scanning speed | Recalibrate on a clear spot; Ensure surface is dry and non-metallic; Scan slowly and evenly |
| Constant red screen/alarm | Calibrated over an object; Interference | Move to a different spot on the wall and recalibrate |
| Weak or inconsistent signal | Deeply embedded object; Thick wall material | Scan multiple times from different angles; Note that detection depth limits apply |
9. User Tips
- Always perform a test scan on a known clear area of the wall to ensure proper function and calibration.
- For optimal accuracy, hold the device firmly against the wall and move it slowly and consistently.
- When detecting live AC wires, be extra cautious and verify findings with other methods if possible before proceeding with any work.
- Mark the edges of detected objects with a pencil to clearly identify their location and center.
