3. Product Overview

4. Setup

4.1. Battery Installation

  1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
  2. Align the 7.4V 2600mAh Li-ion battery pack with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
  3. Gently push the battery into place until it clicks securely.

4.2. Antenna Attachment

  1. Locate the SMA-Female antenna connector on the top of the radio.
  2. Screw the provided SMA-Female FM/136-174/400-470MHz High Gain Antenna clockwise onto the connector until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

4.3. Charging the Battery

Before initial use, fully charge the battery. The radio features a 2600mAh rechargeable Li-ion Type-C battery pack.

  1. Connect the AC adapter to the desktop charger.
  2. Place the radio (with battery installed) into the desktop charger.
  3. Alternatively, you can use the Type-C charging cable to directly charge the radio.
  4. The indicator light will show charging status (e.g., red for charging, green for fully charged).

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off and Volume

To power on the radio, rotate the Power Switch/Volume Knob clockwise. Continue rotating to increase the volume. To power off, rotate counter-clockwise until it clicks.

5.2. Basic Operation

  • Channel Selection: Use the Channel Knob or the up/down arrows on the Function Keypad to navigate through the 990 memory channels (10 zones, 99 channels per zone).
  • Frequency Input: Use the Numeric Keypad for direct frequency input in VFO mode.
  • PTT Buttons: Press and hold a PTT button to transmit. Release to receive.

5.3. Modulation Modes

The HI-UV850Pro supports multiple modulation types:

  • FM (Frequency Modulation): For standard VHF/UHF communication and FM broadcast reception (64-108MHz).
  • AM (Amplitude Modulation): For shortwave (SW), medium wave (MW), and long wave (LW) reception (153-279KHz, 520-1710KHz, 2300-26100KHz). Also for aviation band receive (108-136MHz).
  • SSB (Single Sideband): For enhanced shortwave reception (150-30000KHz).
  • USB/LSB/CW: For advanced amateur radio operations.

5.4. Advanced Features

  • 10W Output Power: Selectable High/Middle/Low output power levels.

6. Maintenance

6.1. General Care

  • Keep the radio dry. If it gets wet, wipe it immediately.
  • Do not expose the radio to extreme temperatures.
  • Clean the radio with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or solvents.
  • Ensure all covers and ports are properly sealed when not in use to prevent dust and moisture ingress.

6.2. Battery Care

  • Charge the battery fully before first use.
  • Avoid overcharging or completely draining the battery to prolong its lifespan.
  • Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
