4. Operating Instructions

Opening the Umbrella:

  1. Ensure the area around the umbrella is clear of obstructions.
  2. Locate the hand-cranked handle on the umbrella pole.

Closing the Umbrella:

  1. Remove the safety pin (if applicable).
  2. Turn the hand-cranked handle counter-clockwise to slowly retract and close the umbrella canopy.
  3. Once fully closed, secure the canopy with any attached straps or ties to keep it compact and prevent it from unfurling in the wind.

Moving the Umbrella:

The base is equipped with rollers for easy movement. Before moving, ensure the umbrella canopy is fully closed and secured. Tilt the umbrella slightly and roll it to the desired location. If the base is filled with water, consider draining some water if moving over rough terrain to reduce weight, then refill at the new location.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Canopy: Clean the polyester canopy regularly with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before folding and storing to prevent mildew.
  • Cleaning the Pole and Base: Wipe down the galvanized pole and plastic base with a damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a mild detergent.
  • Inspect for Damage: Periodically check the umbrella ribs, pole, and canopy for any signs of wear, tear, or damage. Address any issues promptly to ensure safe operation.
  • Winter Storage: During off-season or harsh weather conditions, it is recommended to fully close, clean, and dry the umbrella. Store it in a dry, protected area to prolong its lifespan.
  • Base Water/Sand: If the base is filled with water, ensure it is drained before freezing temperatures to prevent cracking.

6. Troubleshooting

  • Umbrella won't open/close smoothly: Check for any obstructions in the mechanism or canopy. Ensure the hand-cranked handle is not jammed. Apply a silicone-based lubricant to moving parts if necessary.
  • Umbrella is unstable: Verify that the base is completely filled with water or sand (65kg capacity). Ensure the pole is securely fastened to the base. Check that the ground surface is level.
  • Canopy is sagging: Ensure the canopy is fully extended and the safety pin is engaged. Check if any ribs are bent or broken.
  • Water leakage: While the fabric is waterproof, prolonged exposure to heavy rain or damage to the fabric can lead to minor leaks. Inspect the canopy for tears or punctures.

7. User Tips

  • For maximum shade and stability, position the umbrella in a location that minimizes exposure to strong winds.
  • Always close and secure the umbrella during strong winds or heavy rain to prevent damage.
  • When filling the base, sand provides more weight per volume than water, offering superior stability.
  • Utilize the rollers on the base to easily reposition the umbrella throughout the day to follow the sun's movement.
  • Consider using an umbrella cover when not in use for extended periods to protect the fabric from UV damage and dirt.
