4. Installation

Professional installation by a trained installer or locksmith is highly recommended.

4.1 Pre-installation Notes

  • You need to place one working factory OEM key fob's PCB inside the control module.
  • This process requires disassembling the car factory key.
  • After completing the wiring connection, a new programming step is required.

4.2 Control Module Preparation

To prepare the control module, you must insert the PCB from one of your working factory key fobs:

  1. Disassemble your car key and remove the battery.
  2. Unscrew the control module casing.
  3. Carefully take out the internal board of the control module.
  4. Insert the car OEM key fob's PCB into the designated slot within the control module. Ensure the car key antenna side is facing upward.
  5. Screw the control module board back into place and close the casing.

Figure 5: Inserting the Car Key's PCB into the Control Module.

4.3 DIP Switch Settings

Before making wire connections, ensure the control module's DIP switches are correctly set. For default operation, DIP switches No.1, No.3, and No.6 should be in the ON position.

Note: For some car models, only DIP switch No.1 and No.3 should be ON. Always unplug the power supply wire before resetting DIP switches.

4.4 Wiring Connection

The wiring diagram below applies to ESW309C01-N, ESW309C02-N, ESW309C03-N, and ESW309C04-N series. For ESW309C01-N-PP and ESW309C02-N-PP series, installation is plug-and-play, requiring no additional wire connections.

4.4.1 Red Constant 12V Wire Connection

The red 12V wire from the EASYGUARD smart key kit must be connected to a constant 12V wire in your car (a wire that has electricity even when the car is shut off). Common constant 12V sources include:

  • Main battery positive pole
  • KG module (power supply for comfort access)
  • Dome light (power supply for SOS)

4.4.2 Black GND Wire Connection

The black GND wire should be connected to the battery negative pole or a reliable chassis ground point.

4.4.3 CAN BUS Wire Connection

To identify CAN BUS wires:

  1. Turn the car to the ON position.
  2. Test the wires' voltage. CAN H typically reads above 2.5V, and CAN L typically reads below 2.5V. The combined voltage of CAN H and CAN L is usually around 5.0V.
  3. CAN BUS wires are typically twisted pairs.

The CAN BUS wire can often be found from the KG module. Refer to the example below:

Image showing the location of CAN BUS wires on a KG module, indicating pin numbers for GND, 12V+, CANL, and CANH.
Figure 8: CAN BUS Wire Location on KG Module.

4.4.4 KG Module Location for Benz Cars

The location of the KG module may vary by vehicle model. The table below provides general guidance:

For BENZ cars modelsKG module position
C classBehind 2 screws of the left trunk
E classBehind fuse box of the right trunk
S classIn the left of 2nd row passenger seat backrest panel
GLABelow the clearer plate of the left trunk
GLCOn the left trunk
GLEBelow the carpet of the left of 2nd row passenger seat
GLSIn the left of 2nd row passenger seat backrest panel

Note: The above KG module information is for reference only. The actual location or wires may vary for different vehicles in different countries.

4.5 Antenna Installation Positions

Proper placement of the antennas is crucial for optimal performance. Ensure all antennas are kept at least 10cm away from metal products.

Figure 9: Antenna Installation Positions.
  • Front PKE antenna: Install in the front section of the vehicle.
  • Rear PKE antenna: Install in the rear section of the vehicle.
  • HF antenna: Can be placed in the A-pillar or inside the trim panel near the dash.

The control module is typically placed inside the trim panel near the dash or under the driver's seat.

5. Operation

5.1 Remote Control Functions

The new key fobs replicate the functions of your original factory key. Refer to the diagrams below for button assignments and functions:

Diagram showing various key fob styles (BE, BE4, BE2W, BE2, BE24, BE3) and their button functions for lock, unlock, trunk release, PKE enable/disable, and key detection/manual lock/unlock.

Key Fob Function Summary:

FunctionMethodNote
PKE enable (default setting)Holding Lock + Unlock for 5 seconds, then press Lock once to confirm.Proximity lock & unlock. Can start the car only when key fobs are in the car.
PKE disableHolding Unlock + Trunk Release for 5 seconds, then press Unlock once to confirm. Can start the car when unlocked, but cannot start the car when locked.
Key detection or Manual lock/unlockHolding Lock + Trunk Release for 5 seconds, then press Trunk Release once to confirm. Can start the car only when key fobs are in the car.

6. Programming

6.1 Remote Control Programming Method

After installation, you must program the new key fobs to the control module:

  1. Press and hold the white programming switch on the control module for 3-5 seconds. The red LED indicator on the control module will light up continuously.
  2. Release the programming switch.
  3. Quickly press the "Lock" button once on the first remote you wish to program. The indicator light will flash once, confirming successful programming for that key.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 for the second and any subsequent key fobs (up to a maximum of 3 key fobs). Program all key fobs one by one.
  5. All programming steps must be completed within 10 seconds. If the red LED indicator on the control module turns off, the device has exited programming status.
Image showing the control module with the white programming switch and red LED indicator, used for remote control programming.
Figure 11: Control Module Programming Switch.

After programming, if the PKE antenna is plugged in and the remote control is nearby, the LED indicator light on the control module will remain on, and the vehicle can be started. If the key is moved more than 5 meters away, the light will turn off, and the vehicle cannot be started.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Remote control programming fails: If programming is unsuccessful, check if the remote control batteries have sufficient power. Also, try unplugging and re-plugging the power connector to the control module and attempt programming again.
  • Car unable to start with key fob nearby: Ensure the PKE antenna is correctly plugged into the control module. Verify that the remote control is within the detection range (typically 2-3 meters). Check the LED indicator on the control module; it should be on when the key fob is nearby.
  • PKE function not working: Confirm that PKE is enabled via the remote control (refer to Section 5.1). Check antenna placement to ensure they are not obstructed by metal objects and are at least 10cm away from metal.
  • Unexpected locking/unlocking or window behavior: Review the DIP switch settings (Section 4.3) to ensure they match the recommended configuration for your vehicle model.
