6.3 Wire Feeding Setup (for MIG/Gasless MIG)

The automatic wire feeder supports 0.8mm/0.9mm/1.0mm diameter E71T-GS flux core wires. To load the wire:

  1. Open the side panel of the welder.
  2. Mount the wire spool onto the spindle.
  3. Thread the wire through the wire feeder mechanism, ensuring it passes through the guide tube and into the MIG gun liner.
  4. Close the side panel.

7.1 MMA (ARC) Welding

Select MMA mode using the 'MODE' button. Adjust the welding current (Amps) using the control knob. The display shows parameters like Hot Start, Arc Force, and Antisticking, which are integrated for premium welding performance.

7.2 Lift TIG Welding

Select TIG mode. Connect a WP17V TIG torch (not included) to the designated port. Adjust the welding current using the control knob. Lift TIG requires touching the tungsten electrode to the workpiece and then lifting it slightly to initiate the arc.

7.3 Gasless MIG Welding

Select MIG mode. The synergic control simplifies setup: first, select the MIG mode, then select the wire size (e.g., FLUX Ø0.8 or FLUX Ø1.0). The machine will automatically match the wire feed speed and voltage. This mode is ideal for beginners.

7.4 Spool Gun Welding

Connect the spool gun as shown in the setup section. Select the Spool Gun mode. This mode is for gasless welding only and does not support aluminum welding.

8. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your welder.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the welder and ensure the cooling fan vents are free from dust and debris. Use compressed air to clean internal components if necessary, ensuring the unit is unplugged.
  • Cable Inspection: Regularly inspect all welding cables, electrode holders, and ground clamps for cuts, fraying, or loose connections. Replace damaged components immediately.
  • Wire Feeder Maintenance: Clean the wire feeder rollers and guide tubes to prevent wire feeding issues. Check for wear on the drive rollers and replace if needed.
  • MIG Gun Nozzle/Tips: Clean or replace MIG gun nozzles and contact tips as they wear out to maintain good arc stability and weld quality.

9. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your welder, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power: Check the power cable connection, ensure the power switch is ON, and verify the circuit breaker hasn't tripped.
  • Poor Arc Start/Stability: Ensure proper grounding, check electrode/wire condition, verify correct current settings for the material and process.
  • Wire Feeding Issues (MIG): Check for tangled wire, ensure the wire spool is correctly mounted, clean the wire feeder rollers, and check the MIG gun liner for blockages.
  • Overheating Protection Activated: If the welder shuts off due to overheating, allow it to cool down. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
  • No Welding Output: Verify all connections (power, electrode/MIG gun, ground clamp) are secure. Check the selected welding mode and parameters.

10. User Tips

  • Plug Type: The HBM145 is fitted with an AU Plug, which is typically a 10 Amp plug suitable for standard household outlets in Australia.
  • Beginner-Friendly: Utilize the synergic control feature in MIG mode to simplify parameter setup, making it easier to achieve good welds.
  • Material Versatility: This welder is suitable for carbon steel, iron, galvanized sheet metal, and stainless steel.
  • Spool Gun Use: Remember that spool gun welding on this unit is gasless only and not recommended for aluminum.
