1. Introduction

Thank you for choosing the AJAZZ NK104 Wired Mechanical Keyboard. This keyboard is designed to provide a superior typing experience with its 104-key layout, hot-swappable switches, durable ABS keycaps, and dynamic backlight functions controlled by a convenient metal knob. This manual will guide you through the setup, operation, and maintenance of your new keyboard.

2. Setup

The AJAZZ NK104 keyboard is designed for simple plug-and-play functionality, requiring no additional driver installation.

2.1 Connecting the Keyboard

  1. Locate an available USB port on your computer (desktop or laptop).
  2. Plug the USB cable from the keyboard into the USB port.
  3. The keyboard will be automatically recognized by your operating system.

The keyboard is compatible with multiple systems, including Windows Vista/XP/7/8/10/11 and Mac operating systems.

3. Operating Instructions

3.1 Multifunction Knob Control

The metal knob located on the top right of the keyboard serves multiple functions for system control and lighting effects.

3.1.1 Volume Control

  • Rotate the knob clockwise to increase system volume.
  • Rotate the knob counter-clockwise to decrease system volume.
  • Press the knob to mute/unmute audio.

3.1.2 Backlight Mode Control

The keyboard features 17 different mixed lighting effects. To control the backlight using the knob:

  1. Activate Backlight Mode: Long-press the knob for 3 seconds. The indicator light will flash 3 times, confirming entry into backlight mode.
  2. Cycle Lighting Effects: While in backlight mode, press the knob to cycle through the 17 available lighting effects.
  3. Adjust Brightness: While in backlight mode, rotate the knob to adjust the backlight brightness.

3.2 Backlight Function Keys

In addition to the knob, specific FN key combinations allow for fine-tuning of the backlight effects:

  • FN + ↑: Increase backlight brightness (5 levels).
  • FN + ↓: Decrease backlight brightness (5 levels; the last level turns off the backlight).
  • FN + PrtSc (Print Screen): Cycle through lighting effects (17 effects total).
  • FN + ←: Decrease lighting speed (5 levels).
  • FN + →: Increase lighting speed (5 levels).
  • FN + ESC: Restore factory default lighting effects.

3.3 Hot-Swappable Switches

The NK104 keyboard supports full-key hot-swapping, allowing you to easily change mechanical switches without soldering. This feature enables customization of your typing feel.

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning the Keyboard

  • Disconnect the keyboard from your computer before cleaning.
  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution to wipe down the keycaps and casing.
  • For deeper cleaning, you may use a keycap puller (not included) to remove keycaps and clean underneath with compressed air or a small brush.
  • Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the keyboard.

4.2 Replacing Switches

To replace a switch:

  1. Gently remove the keycap using a keycap puller.
  2. Use a switch puller (not included) to carefully grip and pull the switch straight up from the PCB.
  3. Align the pins of the new switch with the holes on the PCB and press down firmly until it clicks into place. Ensure the pins are not bent.
  4. Reattach the keycap.

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Keyboard Not Responding

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely plugged into both the keyboard and the computer.
  • Try plugging the keyboard into a different USB port on your computer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Test the keyboard on another computer to rule out a system-specific issue.

5.2 Backlight Not Working or Incorrect

  • Ensure the keyboard is in backlight mode (long-press the knob for 3 seconds).
  • Check brightness settings using the knob or `FN + ↑`/`FN + ↓`.
  • Try resetting the lighting effects to factory defaults by pressing `FN + ESC`.
  • If specific keys are not lighting up, check if their switches are properly seated or consider replacing the switch.

5.3 Keys Not Registering

  • Ensure the keyboard is properly connected.
  • If only specific keys are affected, the switch for that key might be faulty or improperly seated. Try removing and re-inserting the switch, or replacing it.
  • Clean any debris that might be under the keycap or switch.
