3. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the safe and effective operation of your DALY Smart BMS. Follow these steps carefully.
Wiring Instructions (3 Easy Steps)

Detailed wiring diagram for connecting the BMS to a battery pack, electric machine/load, and recharger.
- Solder the sampling cables: The first cable in black in the sampling cable set is connected to the negative terminal of the battery. The second cable (red) is connected to the positive terminal of the first string of batteries, and the third cable (red) is connected to the positive terminal of the second string of batteries. Continue this sequence until all cables are connected to their respective positive terminals.
- Check the cables: After connecting the cables, measure the voltage between two adjacent connections starting from the header to ensure there are no wrong connections or missing connections.
- Connect the output wires: Connect the B- wire of the BMS to the total negative terminal of the battery pack, and then plug the sampling cable to the BMS. After activating the BMS, ensure that the voltage (battery voltage) between B+ & B- and the voltage between P+ & P- are consistent.
Important Notes:
- The length of the B- wire should not exceed 40cm.
- When soldering, the balance cable cannot be inserted into the BMS.
- Do NOT plug into the BMS during welding. Insulate unused wires.
- Use a multimeter or wire tester to confirm each cell's voltage is normal. Fix any miswiring or poor soldering.
- Secure B- and P- to BMS with 10N·m torque.
- Insulate P- before final connection.
- Insert NTC, then plug sampling cable to auto-activate BMS.
4. Operating Instructions
BMS Activation
The BMS automatically activates when used for the first time. If the protection board is hibernated, it can be activated in four ways:

Visual guide to activating the BMS from hibernation.
- Use key switch.
- Press buttons on Bluetooth module or SOC indicator.
- Using CAN/RS485 communication or Bluetooth connect to Mobile APP.
- Charge or discharge the battery.
Before activating the BMS, ensure that the BMS, cables, battery, and NTC are connected correctly.
Operating Light Indicator
- Lights flashing: BMS is active/operating.
- Lights off: BMS is in sleep mode/inactive.
Monitoring and Parameter Adjustment (APP/Host Computer)
The DALY Smart BMS supports real-time monitoring and parameter adjustment via a mobile application (APP) or a host computer.

- Mobile APP: Connect via Bluetooth to monitor battery data such as SOC, Voltage, Current, Temperature, Alarms, and Cycle number. Supports iOS and Android systems.
- Host Computer: Connect via UART/RS485/CAN communication wire to adjust multiple protection values (overcharge, over-discharge, over-current, temperature, balancing) and set other parameters.

DALY Cloud - Lithium Battery IoT Platform
DALY's official IoT platform provides remote and batch intelligent management of BMS. Battery data is saved in the cloud. Multi-level sub-accounts can be opened, and the BMS can be remotely upgraded through the APP + DALY Cloud.

BMS must be connected to the Bluetooth module/WIFI module/4G module so that data can be uploaded to the cloud server through the mobile APP or router.
5. Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your DALY Smart BMS, consider the following maintenance aspects:
- Thermal Management: The BMS features thermal silica to accelerate heat dissipation. Ensure proper airflow around the unit, especially in enclosed spaces, to maintain low operating temperatures.
- Environmental Protection: The BMS is designed to be moisture-proof, anti-vibration, and anti-oxidation. However, avoid exposing it to extreme conditions, direct water immersion, or excessive mechanical stress.
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and apply firmware updates via the mobile APP or host computer to benefit from performance improvements and new features.
- Connection Integrity: Periodically inspect all wiring connections for tightness and corrosion. Loose or corroded connections can lead to poor performance or system failure.
6. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues and their potential solutions.
Common Issues and Solutions
- BMS Damaged or Battery Burn Out: This can occur if the BMS type and lithium battery type are mismatched, or if the number of BMS strings and battery strings are not in one-to-one correspondence. Always ensure compatibility before installation.
- Battery Cannot Be Fully Charged/Discharged: This is often a consequence of mismatched BMS and battery types. Verify that your BMS is compatible with your battery chemistry (Li-ion/LiFePO4).
- Incorrect Remaining Capacity (SOC) Reading: The rated capacity of the battery needs to be set accurately in the APP according to the actual AH capacity of your battery pack. If the capacity is not set correctly, the SOC percentage will be inaccurate. For the first use, the battery needs to be charged to 100% for calibration.
- BMS in Sleep Mode: If the BMS is inactive (lights off), it can be woken up by plugging in a charger/load, pressing the button on the Bluetooth module, or through 485/CAN communication. After single or overall over-discharge protection, the BMS enters sleep mode and wakes up periodically every 4 hours. If it can be charged, it will exit the resting state and enter normal charging.
- Voltage Inconsistency (B+ & B- vs. B+ & P-): If the voltage between B+ & B- (battery pack voltage) is not equal to the voltage between B+ & P- (voltage after BMS), it indicates an issue. Recheck the wiring sequence carefully.
User Tips
- Parameter Adjustment: The APP password for setting parameters is
123456. - Sleep Mode Customization: The default sleep time for the APP is 3600 seconds (1 hour). To disable sleep mode, set the sleep time to
65535. - Inverter Communication: Note that the UART version of the BMS does not support communication with an inverter. The 485/CAN version is required for inverter communication. Clarify your needs before purchasing.
