6. Operating Instructions
- Power On: After setup, plug in the filter. The pump will start circulating water.
- Adjust Flow Rate: Use the flow rate adjustment knob (typically blue and circular) on the filter to increase or decrease the water flow according to your aquarium's needs and the type of fish.
- Oil Film Removal: The integrated surface skimmer will automatically remove oil film from the water surface. Ensure it is positioned correctly at the water line.
- Water Output Modes: The filter supports multiple water output modes. You can adjust the sprinkler pipe or outlet nozzle to achieve different effects such as surface ripple, spray bar, or submerged outlet with aeration.
- Oxygenation: The filter's design promotes water movement and aeration, contributing to oxygenation in the tank.
- Low Water Level Operation: The filter is designed to operate efficiently even when the water level in the tank is low, making it suitable for various setups, including those with turtles.

7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your SUNSUN filter.
- Filter Media Cleaning/Replacement: Periodically check the filter cotton and other media. When they become clogged with debris, rinse them thoroughly with old aquarium water (to preserve beneficial bacteria) or replace them if heavily soiled. The 3-layer filtration system allows for easy access to media.
- Pollution Discharge: Utilize the easy pollution discharge switch to drain accumulated waste from the filter unit. This helps in removing fish feces and other settled debris without disassembling the entire filter.
- Clean Inlet/Outlet: Ensure the inlet pipe, bottom suction, and sprinkler pipe are free from obstructions. The stainless steel net cover on the inlet helps prevent larger debris from entering and causing blockages.
- Oil Film Skimmer Cleaning: Clean the oil film skimmer regularly to ensure it functions effectively in removing surface film.
- Impeller Cleaning: If flow rate decreases significantly, the pump impeller may be clogged. Disconnect power, remove the pump head, and clean the impeller and its housing.

8. Troubleshooting
- No Water Flow:
- Check if the power cord is securely plugged in.
- Ensure the filter unit is filled with water and properly primed.
- Inspect the inlet and outlet pipes for blockages.
- Clean the pump impeller for any debris.
- Reduced Water Flow:
- Check and clean clogged filter media.
- Ensure the flow rate adjustment knob is set to the desired level.
- Clean the inlet and outlet pipes, including the bottom suction and skimmer.
- Excessive Noise:
- Ensure the filter is securely mounted and not vibrating against the tank.
- Check for air trapped inside the filter; gently tilt the filter to release air bubbles.
- Clean the pump impeller for any foreign objects or wear.
- Oil Film Not Removing:
- Ensure the surface skimmer is positioned correctly at the water surface.
- Clean the skimmer intake for any blockages.
9. User Tips
- For optimal biological filtration, consider adding biological filter media (e.g., ceramic rings, bio-balls) to the filter boxes, as the included cotton primarily provides mechanical filtration.
- When cleaning filter media, use water from your aquarium to rinse it. This helps preserve beneficial bacteria colonies essential for a healthy nitrogen cycle.
- Regularly check the water parameters of your aquarium to ensure the filter is effectively maintaining water quality.
- The silent operation of this filter makes it suitable for aquariums in living areas or bedrooms.
