- Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Be aware of your surroundings and ride defensively.
- Warning: Please mind potential fire risk and strictly follow the instruction manual for charging and storage.
3. Setup and Assembly
Your VARSTROM Magmove ECity 700C e-bike may require some assembly upon arrival. Follow these steps carefully:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Retain packaging for future transport or storage.
- Handlebar Installation: Attach the handlebar to the stem, ensuring all bolts are tightened securely.
- Seat Post Installation: Insert the seat post into the frame and adjust the seat height for a comfortable riding position. Secure with the quick-release lever or bolt.
- Pedal Installation: Identify left (L) and right (R) pedals. Thread the pedals into the crank arms (left pedal is reverse-threaded). Tighten firmly with a wrench.
- Front Wheel Installation: Install the front wheel, ensuring it is centered and secured properly in the fork dropouts.
- Tire Inflation: Inflate both tires to the recommended pressure indicated on the tire sidewall.
- Initial Battery Charge: Fully charge the battery before your first ride. Connect the charger to the battery port and then to a power outlet. The charging time is approximately 5-6 hours.
- Accessory Installation (Optional):
- Rear Rack: The e-bike comes with an integrated rear rack for carrying cargo. Ensure it is securely fastened.
- Front Basket: If you wish to add a front basket, utilize the basket fixing points at the head tube. Refer to Figure 2 for details on the fixing points.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Powering On/Off
To power on the e-bike, press and hold the power button on the DPC13 LCD display. To power off, repeat the process.
4.2 DPC13 LCD Display
The DPC13 non-color display is located on the left side of the handlebar and provides essential riding information:
- Speed: Current riding speed.
- Battery Level: Indication of remaining battery charge.
- Riding Mode (PAS Level): Shows the current pedal assist level (P-1-2-3-4-5).
Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the display to adjust the pedal assist level.
4.3 Pedal Assist System (PAS)
The e-bike features a Bafang M200 mid-drive motor with a torque sensor, providing smooth and responsive acceleration. There are 5 levels of pedal assist (P-1 to P-5). The higher the level, the more motor assistance you receive. Combining pedal assist with manual pedaling is recommended for optimal range and performance.
- Torque Sensor: The motor engages immediately when you start pedaling, providing a natural riding feel.
- Range: A full charge can provide a range of 60-100 km depending on terrain, assist level, and rider weight.
4.4 Gear Shifting
The e-bike is equipped with a Shimano 8-speed transmission system. Use the shifter on the handlebar to change gears. Shift to lower gears for uphill climbs and higher gears for flat terrain or downhill riding to maintain an efficient pedaling cadence.
4.5 Lighting System
The e-bike features LED head and rear lights for visibility. Activate them using the controls on the handlebar. Note that the rear brake light is always on when the bike is powered, which enhances visibility but is not connected to the brake lever.
Important: The front light's effectiveness may be reduced or blocked if a front rack is installed, as its placement can be obscured. Ensure adequate alternative lighting if using a front rack at night.
4.6 Braking System
Your e-bike is equipped with dual hydraulic disc brakes for reliable stopping power. Apply both front and rear brakes smoothly and evenly to control your speed and stop safely.
4.7 Battery Management
The 36V 13Ah 468Wh Lithium-Ion battery is integrated into the downtube for a sleek design. It is removable and lockable to prevent theft. To remove the battery, unlock it with the provided key and slide it out. To reinsert, align it correctly and lock it into place.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your e-bike.
- Battery Care:
- Charge the battery regularly, even if not in use, to maintain its health.
- Avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.
- Store the battery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
- The battery is rated for approximately 1000 charge cycles.
- Tire Care:
- Check tire pressure before each ride and inflate to the recommended PSI.
- Inspect tires for wear, cuts, or punctures regularly. The e-bike uses Kenda 700C*38C tires.
- Brake Maintenance:
- Regularly check brake pads for wear and replace them when necessary.
- Ensure brake levers are responsive and provide adequate stopping power.
- Inspect hydraulic lines for leaks or damage.
- Transmission Care:
- Keep the chain clean and lubricated.
- Check the Shimano 8-speed gear system for smooth operation and adjust if shifting becomes imprecise.
- Suspension:
- The front coil suspension fork requires minimal maintenance but should be kept clean.
- Ensure the fork operates smoothly and is free from damage. Note that this fork does not have a lockout function.
- General Cleaning: Clean your e-bike regularly with a damp cloth. Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on electrical components.
