3.3 External Alarm (Optional)
If an external alarm horn is desired, connect a 12V alarm horn to the device's alarm output interface using a 3.5mm audio cable. The device's alarm output is a 12V high-level signal.
3.4 Sensor Placement (TA654A/B)
For TA654A/B models with an external sensor, position the sensor in the area where noise measurement is required. The sensor cable length is 5 meters, allowing for flexible placement away from the main unit.
4. Operating Instructions
4.1 Power On/Off
Press the power button located on the side of the device to turn it on or off. The large LED display will illuminate upon power-on.
4.2 Real-time Noise Monitoring
Once powered on, the device will immediately begin displaying the current noise level in decibels (dB) on the large LED screen. The analog bar level indicator on the right side provides a quick visual reference:
- Green indicators: 30dB to 75dB
- Red indicators: 76dB to 130dB
4.3 Setting Alarm Thresholds
To set the upper and lower alarm thresholds:
- Press the 'SEL' button to enter the alarm setting mode.
- Use the 'Up' and 'Down' buttons to adjust the desired upper or lower decibel threshold.
- Press 'SEL' again to confirm the setting and move to the next parameter, or exit the setting mode.
When the measured noise level exceeds the set upper threshold, the device will activate the sound and light alarm. The alarm duration can be configured between 6 seconds and 120 seconds.
4.4 Data Storage and PC Communication (TA653B/TA654B only)
Models TA653B and TA654B support data storage and communication with a PC:
- Automatic Data Storage: The device automatically stores data every 2 seconds, recording the maximum noise value within that interval. It can store data for up to half a year. Older data will be overwritten after this period.
- PC Software: Connect the device to a computer using the USB data cable. Use the dedicated PC software (compatible with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 10) to:
- Monitor noise levels in real-time.
- Download stored data.
- Export data in LAB or Excel format.
- Set upper and lower alarm thresholds directly from the software.
4.5 Calibration
The device features a calibration knob on the back panel. For precise measurements, periodic calibration according to professional standards is recommended. Refer to the detailed calibration procedure in the full technical manual if available.
5. Maintenance
- Cleaning: Regularly wipe the device with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Ensure the ventilation holes on the back panel are not obstructed to maintain optimal performance and response speed.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the device in a dry environment within the specified storage temperature range of -10°C to 60°C and relative humidity below 70%.
- Power Supply: Always use the original or a compatible DC 5V/1A power adapter.
6. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your TASI Sound Level Meter, please refer to the following common troubleshooting steps:
- Device does not power on:
- Check if the power adapter is securely connected to both the device and the power outlet.
- Ensure the power outlet is functional.
- Verify that the power adapter is the correct DC 5V/1A type.
- No display or incorrect readings:
- Ensure the sensor (especially external sensor for TA654A/B) is properly connected and unobstructed.
- Check for any physical damage to the display or sensor.
- If readings seem consistently off, consider performing a calibration if you have the necessary equipment.
- Alarm not triggering or triggering incorrectly:
- Verify that the alarm thresholds are set correctly in the operating mode or via PC software.
- Check the alarm duration setting.
- If an external alarm is connected, ensure it is properly wired and functional.
- PC communication issues (TA653B/TA654B only):
- Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the device and the computer.
- Verify that the PC software is correctly installed and running on a compatible Windows operating system (Win7/8/10).
- Try restarting both the device and the computer.
If the problem persists after attempting these steps, please contact customer support.

8. User Tips
To maximize the effectiveness and lifespan of your sound level meter:
- Optimal Placement: For accurate environmental monitoring, place the meter in a central location within the area of interest, away from direct sound sources or obstructions.
- Regular Checks: Periodically check the alarm settings to ensure they align with your current noise monitoring requirements.
- Data Management (B models): If using a TA653B or TA654B model, regularly download and back up your stored data to prevent loss, especially before the half-year overwrite cycle.
- Environmental Awareness: Understand the typical decibel levels for various environments to better interpret the readings. (Refer to Figure 12 for a general reference).
