3. Setup Guide

3.1 Battery Installation

1. Ensure the radio is powered off.
2. Align the battery with the battery compartment on the back of the radio.
3. Gently push the battery into place until it clicks securely.

3.2 Charging the Radio

The BF-T20D supports Type-C USB charging, offering flexibility with various power sources.

1. Connect the provided USB-C cable to the charging port on the radio.
2. Connect the other end of the cable to a compatible USB power source (e.g., computer USB port, power bank, car charger, or wall adapter).
3. The indicator light will show red during charging and turn green when fully charged.

3.3 Attaching the Belt Clip and Neck Strap

The BF-T20D is designed for easy portability.

• Belt Clip: The yellow/blue/red models feature screw holes on the back for installing a new belt clip. For the currently supplied old-style large belt clip, remove any existing screws before installation to ensure a secure fit.
• Neck Strap: Attach the neck strap to the designated loop on the radio for convenient carrying.

4. Operating Instructions

1. Power On/Off and Volume Adjustment: Rotate the Power/Volume Knob (05) clockwise to power on the radio and increase volume. Rotate counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.
2. Selecting Channels: The radio has 16 channels. Use the + Key (02) and - Key (03) to cycle through the available channels.
3. Transmitting (PTT Key): Press and hold the PTT Key (01) on the side of the radio to transmit your voice. Speak clearly into the Microphone (07). Release the PTT key to receive.
4. VOX Function: The BF-T20D supports VOX (Voice Operated Exchange) for hands-free communication. When VOX is enabled, the radio will automatically transmit when it detects your voice. Consult the English Manual for specific activation steps, as this feature is typically programmed via PC software.
5. Noise Reduction: The radio features AI intelligent noise reduction, which automatically works to provide clearer sound. No manual activation is required for this feature.
6. Channel Monitor: Use the Channel Monitor function to listen to weak signals on a channel. Refer to the English Manual for activation.
7. Encrypted Calls: The radio supports up to 32 key configurations for encrypted calls. This feature requires pre-programming via PC software to set up secure communication channels.
8. Wireless Copy Frequency: This function allows for quick synchronization of frequencies between radios, simplifying group formation. Refer to the English Manual for instructions on using this feature.

5. Maintenance

• Battery Care: To prolong battery life, avoid overcharging or completely discharging the battery. Charge the battery fully before extended storage.
• Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the radio's exterior. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
• Water Resistance: The BF-T20D has an IP45 rating, meaning it is protected against dust and low-pressure water jets. While it offers some water resistance, avoid submerging the radio in water or exposing it to heavy rain.
• Storage: Store the radio in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

6. Troubleshooting

• No Power: Ensure the battery is correctly installed and fully charged. Check the Power/Volume Knob is turned on.
• Cannot Transmit or Receive: Verify that the radio is on the correct channel. Check if the battery is low. Ensure no obstructions are blocking the signal.
• Poor Audio Quality: The AI Noise Reduction feature should improve clarity. If audio is still poor, ensure you are speaking clearly into the microphone and that the receiving radio's volume is adjusted correctly. Check for strong interference sources.
• Charging Issues: If the indicator light does not turn red when charging, check the USB-C cable and power source connection. If it remains red after an extended period, the battery may not be charging properly.
• Programming Issues: If you encounter issues with customized settings, ensure you are using the correct PC programming cable and software. Contact support if you cannot resolve programming problems.
