6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Engraving/Cutting

  1. Prepare Material: Place your material on the honeycomb platform. Ensure it is flat and secured.
  2. Adjust Laser Head: Adjust the height of the laser head according to the material thickness.
  3. Load Design: Load your design file (BMP, JPG, PNG, NC, DXF, SVG, etc.) into your chosen software (AlgoLaser App, LaserGRBL, or LightBurn).
  4. Positioning: Use the software's positioning tools (e.g., Drag & Drop Positioning) to accurately place your design on the material.
  5. Set Parameters: Select appropriate engraving/cutting parameters (speed, power) for your material. The AlgoLaser Alpha MK2 offers one-click parameter matching for common materials.
  6. Start Operation: Initiate the engraving or cutting process from the software or the machine's smart screen.
  7. Monitor Progress: Observe the process, ensuring safety precautions are maintained.

6.2 Using AlgoSketch & AlgoType

  • AlgoSketch: Use the AlgoLaser App to draw or sketch directly, and the machine will engrave your creation.
  • AlgoType: Input text via the smart screen or app, and the machine will engrave it with precision. This feature is part of the upgraded AlgoOS system.

6.3 Smart Air Assist

The Smart Air Assist system automatically adjusts the airflow based on whether you are engraving (lower airflow, e.g., 30%) or cutting (higher airflow, e.g., 100%). This ensures cleaner cuts and prevents material burns. Ensure the air pump is connected and functioning.

6.4 One-Click Parameter Matching

The AlgoOS system includes built-in presets for common materials. Utilize the one-click parameter matching feature on the smart screen to quickly set optimal parameters for various materials up to 50mm thickness.

6.5 Interruption Recovery

In case of an unexpected power loss or interruption, the machine is designed to resume work from the exact point it left off once power is restored. This feature helps prevent material waste and saves time.

6.6 Engraving Cylindrical or Curved Objects (with optional Rotary Chuck)

If you have the 4-in-1 Rotary Chuck accessory, install it according to its specific instructions. This accessory allows for precise engraving on objects like cups, bottles, and rings, expanding your creative possibilities.

6.7 Expanding Engraving Area (with optional Extension Kit)

To increase your working area from 400x400mm to 400x850mm, install the extension kit. This allows for larger projects or batch processing of multiple smaller items. Follow the instructions provided with the extension kit for proper installation.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning the Laser Lens: Regularly clean the laser lens with a soft, lint-free cloth and lens cleaning solution to maintain optimal laser performance.
  • Smoke Exhaust Filter: The machine's laser head is equipped with a smoke exhaust filter. Periodically check and replace the filter cartridge as needed. The detachable cover allows for easy access.
  • General Cleaning: Keep the machine and surrounding work area clean from dust and debris. Use a soft brush or compressed air to clean the rails and moving parts.
  • Software Updates: The AlgoOS system supports OTA (Over-The-Air) updates. Regularly check for and install the latest firmware updates to ensure your machine is running with the most current features and improvements.

8. Troubleshooting

  • Machine Alarms/Pauses: If the machine alarms or pauses unexpectedly, check the smart screen for error messages. This could be due to:
    • Machine Offset/Tilt: Ensure the machine is on a stable, level surface and has not been bumped.
    • Beam Detection: Check for any obstructions in the laser path.
    • USB Disconnection: Verify the USB cable is securely connected.
    • Current/Voltage Irregularities: Ensure the power supply is stable.
  • Poor Engraving/Cutting Quality:
    • Check laser focus.
    • Verify material parameters (speed, power) are correctly set for the specific material.
    • Clean the laser lens.
    • Ensure the material is flat and properly secured.
  • Software Connection Issues:
    • For Wi-Fi, ensure your device is connected to the machine's Wi-Fi.
    • For USB, ensure drivers are correctly installed and the cable is functional.
    • Restart both the machine and your computer/mobile device.
  • No Laser Output:
    • Check if the machine is powered on and the key lock is in the 'on' position.
    • Verify the laser module is securely connected.
    • Ensure safety features are not triggered (e.g., emergency stop button pressed).

9. User Tips

Based on general best practices for laser engraving machines:

  • Always perform a small test engraving on a scrap piece of the same material before starting a large project to fine-tune settings.
  • Utilize the AlgoLaser App for quick and easy designs, especially for beginners.
