Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to set up your MMD KM40 keyboard:

  1. Unboxing: Carefully remove the keyboard and all accessories from the packaging. The package includes the keyboard, an instruction manual, and a Type-A to Type-C data cable.
  2. Charging: Before first use, connect the keyboard to a computer's USB port using the provided Type-A to Type-C cable for charging.
    • Important: Only use a standard computer USB port for charging. Do NOT use fast chargers or other non-computer USB chargers, as this may damage the battery or PCB and is not covered by warranty.
  3. Connection Mode Selection: The KM40 supports three connection modes:
    • Wired Mode: Connect the keyboard directly to your computer using the Type-C cable.
    • 2.4G Wireless Mode: Insert the 2.4G USB receiver (if included, typically stored in the keyboard) into your computer's USB port. The keyboard should automatically connect.
    • Bluetooth 5.0 Mode: The keyboard supports 3 Bluetooth channels. Refer to the operating instructions for pairing with your device.
  4. Hot-Swap Switches: The keyboard features full key hot-swap sockets, allowing you to easily change switches without soldering. Gently pull out the existing switch with a switch puller and insert a new compatible 3-pin or 5-pin mechanical switch.

Specific key combinations (usually involving the Fn key) are used to cycle through effects, adjust brightness, and change colors. Refer to the included physical instruction manual for detailed key commands for lighting control.

Maintenance

Cleaning

To maintain the performance and appearance of your keyboard:

  • Keycaps: Gently remove keycaps using a keycap puller. Clean them with a mild soap solution and water, then dry thoroughly before reattaching.
  • Keyboard Body: Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol to wipe down the aluminum shell. Avoid excessive moisture.
  • Between Keys: Use compressed air to remove dust and debris from between the switches. A small brush can also be used.

Battery Care

To prolong battery life and ensure safe operation:

  • Always charge the keyboard using a standard computer USB port.
  • Avoid using fast chargers or chargers with higher voltage/amperage than a standard USB port provides.
  • Do not expose the keyboard to extreme temperatures.
  • If storing the keyboard for an extended period, charge it to about 50% and store in a cool, dry place.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your MMD KM40 keyboard, consider the following common solutions:

  • Keyboard not responding:
    • Ensure the keyboard is charged.
    • Check the connection mode (wired, 2.4G, Bluetooth) and ensure it matches your device's connection.
    • For wired mode, try a different USB port or cable.
    • For 2.4G wireless, ensure the receiver is securely plugged in and try re-pairing if necessary (refer to the physical manual).
    • For Bluetooth, ensure the keyboard is paired correctly and try re-pairing or switching to a different Bluetooth channel.
  • Keys not registering:
    • Check if the switch is properly seated in its socket. Gently press down on the switch.
    • If a specific key is not working, try swapping the switch with a known working one to determine if the issue is with the switch or the PCB.
    • Clean any debris around the affected switch.
  • Lighting issues:
    • Ensure the keyboard is powered on and not in a low-power state.
    • Use the designated key combinations (Fn + keys) to cycle through lighting effects and adjust brightness.
    • If using QMK/VIA, verify your lighting configurations.
  • Software (QMK/VIA) issues:
    • Ensure you are using the latest version of the QMK/VIA software.
    • Verify that the keyboard is in the correct mode for firmware flashing or customization (refer to QMK/VIA documentation).

If these steps do not resolve the issue, please refer to the warranty and support section for further assistance.
