1. Introduction

The MEDALight F20 Mini Flash is a compact and portable speedlite designed to provide additional lighting for your photography. Featuring a standard hot shoe mount, it is universally compatible with various cameras, including Ricoh GR4, GR3, and GR3X DSLR cameras. Its small size and lightweight design make it an ideal accessory for both indoor and outdoor shooting, offering two levels of adjustable light control.

3. Product Overview

Familiarize yourself with the components of your MEDALight F20 Mini Flash:

  • Xenon Lamp: The primary light source for the flash.
  • Test Flash Key: Used to manually trigger a test flash.
  • Power Button / Volume Button: Controls power on/off and adjusts flash power levels.
  • 1/2 Power Indicator Light: Illuminates when the flash is set to 1/2 power.
  • 1/1 Power Indicator Light: Illuminates when the flash is set to 1/1 (full) power.
  • Hot Shoe Base: Connects the flash to your camera's hot shoe.
  • Type-C Charging Port: For charging the built-in battery.

5. Setup

5.1 Charging the Flash

  1. Locate the Type-C charging port on the side of the F20 flash.
  2. Connect the provided Type-C charging cable to the flash and a suitable USB power source (e.g., computer, wall adapter).
  3. The red indicator light will be on during charging.
  4. Once fully charged (approximately 1 hour), the green indicator light will turn on.

5.2 Attaching to Camera

The F20 flash features a standard hot shoe mount for universal compatibility.

  1. Ensure your camera has a universal hot shoe mount. Refer to Figure 5.2 for examples of compatible and incompatible hot shoe types.
  2. Slide the hot shoe base of the F20 flash into your camera's hot shoe mount until it is securely seated.
  3. The flash is designed for instant power-on and use once attached.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Power On/Off

To power on the flash, press and hold the Power button. To power off, press and hold the Power button again.

6.2 Adjusting Flash Power

The F20 offers two levels of adjustable light control:

  • 1/2 Power: Press the Power button lightly to cycle to this setting. The 1/2 power indicator light will illuminate.
  • 1/1 Power (Full Power): Press the Power button lightly again to cycle to this setting. The 1/1 power indicator light will illuminate.

Pressing the power button lightly allows you to switch between these two power settings to achieve different lighting effects.

6.3 Test Flash

To perform a test flash, press the Test Flash Key. This will trigger the flash at the currently selected power setting.

6.4 Flash Effects Comparison

The F20 flash significantly enhances photo quality in low-light conditions. Below is a comparison of different flash settings:

7. Troubleshooting

7.1 Flash Not Firing / Powering Off

  • Low Battery: The F20 flash automatically shuts down when the battery is low. Recharge the flash using the Type-C cable. The red light indicates charging, and the green light indicates a full charge.
  • Improper Connection: Ensure the flash is securely seated in the camera's hot shoe.

8. Maintenance

  • Keep the flash clean and free from dust and moisture. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
  • Avoid dropping the flash or subjecting it to strong impacts.
  • Store the flash in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the flash yourself, as this will void any potential warranty and may cause damage.
