1. Introduction

This CERTEON Plastic Gear Flow Sensor is designed for precise measurement of liquid flow in industrial and commercial systems. It utilizes a gear-driven mechanism combined with a Hall effect sensor to generate pulse output proportional to the flow rate. This durable and high-precision liquid gear meter is suitable for non-corrosive, low-viscosity liquids such as water, milk, oil, and detergents. It can be seamlessly integrated into various applications including washing machines, dishwashers, dosing systems, and liquid dispensing equipment.

3. Setup and Installation

3.1. Preparation

  • Verify that the selected model matches the required pipe thread specification and flow range.
  • Ensure the liquid to be measured is non-corrosive and free from solid particles.
  • Confirm that the supply voltage is within DC 3.5–24 V.

3.2. Installation

  • Install the flow meter in the correct flow direction as indicated by the arrow on the housing.
  • Ensure proper sealing of threaded connections using appropriate sealing materials (e.g., PTFE tape).
  • Avoid mechanical stress on the sensor body during installation.

3.3. Electrical Connection

Connect the power supply and NPN pulse output according to the following wiring diagram. Ensure correct polarity before energizing the device.

Wiring instructions for the flow sensor
Wiring instructions: Red (IN) to positive (+), Yellow (OUT) for signal output, Black (GND) to negative (-).
  • Red (IN): Connect to positive (+)
  • Yellow (OUT): Signal output
  • Black (GND): Connect to negative (-)

4. Operation

4.1. Initial Operation

Open the liquid supply gradually to avoid sudden pressure shocks to the sensor. During operation, maintain flow and pressure within the specified range to ensure accurate readings and prevent damage.

4.2. Data Reading

Measure the output pulse frequency from the yellow (OUT) wire. Calculate the flow rate using the corresponding frequency formula for your specific model (refer to the Specifications section). If total volume measurement is required, integrate the pulse counts over time.

Example of the NPN pulse signal output waveform.

The sensor provides an NPN pulse signal output, which can be read by a microcontroller or other compatible device.

5. Maintenance

5.1. Storage

  • Store the product in a dry and well-ventilated environment within the specified storage temperature range (-25°C to +80°C).
  • Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or corrosive atmospheres.
  • If the device is not used for an extended period, clean the internal flow path with a compatible liquid and dry thoroughly before storage.

5.2. Regular Inspection

  • Regularly inspect threaded connections and wiring to ensure secure installation and prevent leaks or disconnections.

6. Troubleshooting & FAQs

Q: What is the wiring method?
A: Connect the red wire to positive (+), the black wire to negative (-), and the yellow wire is for signal output (NPN pulse signal).
Q: Can this sensor measure liquids with impurities?
A: No, this sensor is not designed for liquids containing impurities. It is intended for non-corrosive, clean, low-viscosity liquids.
Q: What if the rotor stops due to liquid solidification?
A: If the liquid solidifies and causes the internal rotor to stop turning, this is not considered a quality issue and will not be covered under warranty. Ensure the liquid remains in a low-viscosity state within the operating temperature range.
Q: What types of liquids can it measure?
A: It is mainly used for non-corrosive, low-viscosity liquids such as water, milk, oil, chemicals, paints, and detergents.

7. Safety Precautions & Warnings

WARNING!

  • This device operates with electrical power. Incorrect wiring may cause electric shock or equipment damage.
  • Ensure the operating voltage does not exceed DC 24 V.
  • Do not exceed the specified maximum pressure rating. Overpressure may result in rupture or leakage.
  • Not suitable for use with explosive, flammable, or highly viscous liquids unless specifically certified by the seller.
  • Prevent solid particles or magnetic debris from entering the meter, as they may affect measurement accuracy and cause damage.
  • Operate within specified temperature and humidity limits to maintain accuracy and service life.
  • Disconnect power before installation, removal, or maintenance.
  • Installation must be carried out by qualified technical personnel.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • Proper disposal: Follow WEEE directives for electronic waste.

Note: The above warning information is for reference only. Final warning language must comply with the official language requirements of the destination EU country.

8. User Tips

  • For optimal performance, ensure the liquid is free of any particles that could obstruct the gear mechanism.
  • When connecting, double-check the polarity of the power supply to prevent damage to the Hall effect sensor.
  • Gradually introduce liquid flow to avoid sudden pressure spikes that could impact the sensor's integrity.
