Operating Instructions

1. Key Customization (QMK/VIA)

The MMD KM40 keyboard is fully customizable using QMK/VIA software. This allows you to remap keys, create macros, and configure multiple layers of key functions.

QMK/VIA software interface for keyboard customization

The keyboard supports open-source QMK/VIA for advanced customization.

The keyboard features 44 keys with 10 customizable layers, offering up to 430 actual usable key values. The default key values are for display purposes; actual settings need to be configured by the user.

The 10 customizable layers include settings for regular use, gaming, modeling, editing, color grading, office tasks, tables, drawing, code, and connection/lighting.

To customize:

  1. Download the QMK Toolbox or VIA software from the official QMK/VIA website.
  2. Connect your keyboard via the Type-C cable.
  3. Follow the software instructions to remap keys, create macros, and manage layers.

2. Lighting Effects

The KM40 features 22 types of lighting effects and 16 million color RGB dazzling lights. Use the designated function keys (e.g., Fn + specific key) to cycle through lighting modes, adjust brightness, and change colors. Refer to the QMK/VIA software for advanced lighting customization.

3. Hot-Swappable Switches

The keyboard features full-key hot-swappable sockets, allowing you to easily change mechanical switches without soldering. This enables users to customize the typing feel to their preference.

4. Compatible Platforms

The MMD KM40 is compatible with Windows and Mac operating systems.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning

  • Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the keyboard surface.
  • For stubborn dirt, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild cleaning solution.
  • To clean between keycaps, use compressed air or a small brush.
  • Keycaps can be removed for deeper cleaning. Use a keycap puller to avoid damage.

2. Keycap Care

The keycaps are made of 1.7mm thick PBT with five-sided dye-sublimation, which is durable and resistant to wear and shine. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials that could damage the keycap legends.

Troubleshooting

1. Keyboard Not Responding

  • Wired Mode: Ensure the Type-C cable is securely connected to both the keyboard and the computer. Try a different USB port or cable.
  • 2.4G Wireless Mode: Ensure the 2.4G receiver is plugged in and the keyboard is switched to 2.4G mode. Re-pair if necessary.
  • Bluetooth Mode: Check if Bluetooth is enabled on your device and the keyboard is in Bluetooth mode. Try re-pairing the device. Ensure the keyboard is charged.

2. Keys Not Working

  • If individual keys are not working, try removing and re-inserting the switch for that key, as the keyboard is hot-swappable.
  • Ensure no debris is lodged under the keycap or switch.
  • If using custom key mappings, reset to default or check your QMK/VIA configuration.

3. Charging Issues

If the keyboard is not charging, ensure you are using a standard computer USB port and not a fast charger. Refer to the charging precautions in the Setup section.

4. Lighting Not Working

  • Check if the lighting is turned off or set to minimum brightness.
  • Cycle through lighting effects using function keys.
  • Verify lighting settings in QMK/VIA software.
