5. Setup & Installation

The Ezonetronics Decoder Box is designed for a non-destructive, plug-and-play installation. However, professional installation is recommended due to the complexity of accessing the vehicle's head unit and wiring.

5.1 Pre-Installation Checklist

  • Ensure your vehicle is turned off and the battery is disconnected before starting installation.
  • Confirm compatibility with your vehicle's make, model, year, and screen type (Bosch 8-inch).
  • Gather necessary tools (e.g., trim removal tools, screwdrivers).

5.2 Installation Steps (General Overview)

  1. Carefully remove the vehicle's dashboard trim and access the OEM head unit.
  2. Disconnect the necessary cables from the OEM head unit.
  3. Connect the provided Power Harness, Screen Adapter Cable, and Screen Signal Cable between the OEM head unit and the Ezonetronics Decoder Box.
  4. Connect the USB Cable to the decoder box for wired CarPlay/Android Auto functionality or for future firmware updates.
  5. If installing aftermarket cameras, connect them to the RCA inputs on the decoder box.
  6. Securely mount the Ezonetronics Decoder Box in a suitable location behind the dashboard.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Switching Between Systems

To switch from your factory OEM car system to the CarPlay/Android Auto system, long-press the designated button on your car's central control knob (as indicated in Figure 5.1). Repeat the action to switch back to the OEM system.

6.2 Connecting Your Smartphone

6.2.1 Wireless CarPlay/Android Auto

  1. Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone.
  2. On your car's screen, navigate to the CarPlay/Android Auto interface.
  3. Pair your phone with the system via Bluetooth.
  4. Once paired, the system will prompt you to enable wireless CarPlay or Android Auto. Confirm the connection.

6.2.2 Wired CarPlay/Android Auto

Connect your smartphone to the provided USB cable, which is connected to the decoder box. The system should automatically detect and launch CarPlay or Android Auto.

6.3 Bluetooth Audio Output

The system utilizes the factory car's Bluetooth for audio output, minimizing interference and providing faster sound response.

  1. Pair your car's Bluetooth with your phone.
  2. Connect to CarPlay/Android Auto.
  3. Ensure sound output is directed to "Car BT" or your car's audio system.

6.7 Optional Rear View Camera

If an aftermarket rear view camera is installed and connected to the decoder box, it will automatically display on the screen when the vehicle is in reverse gear.
