1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and efficient use of your Y&H LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) battery. These batteries are designed for a wide range of off-grid and mobile power applications, including RVs, boats, and solar energy systems. Please read this manual thoroughly before installation and operation.
Your Y&H LiFePO4 battery is equipped with an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) to ensure optimal performance and safety.
2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the battery and connected equipment:
- Do not disassemble, crush, puncture, or short-circuit the battery.
- Keep the battery away from fire, heat sources, and direct sunlight.
- Do not immerse the battery in water or other liquids.
- Use only chargers specifically designed for LiFePO4 batteries.
- Ensure proper ventilation during charging and discharging.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when handling batteries.
- The built-in BMS provides protection against various anomalies, but proper handling is still crucial.
3. Product Overview
The Y&H LiFePO4 battery features a robust design with integrated handles for portability and a real-time voltage display for easy monitoring. It also includes a convenient USB output port.
4. Setup and Connection
4.1. Battery Consistency
Before connecting multiple batteries in series or parallel, ensure all lithium batteries are consistent in terms of capacity, voltage, and other parameters. Significant differences can lead to overcharging or over-discharging of individual batteries, affecting performance, lifespan, and potentially causing safety issues.
4.2. Voltage Equalization
Before connecting batteries in series, it is highly recommended to charge/discharge each battery individually to the same voltage. Allow them to rest for at least 2 hours, then confirm their voltages are consistent before proceeding with the connection. This prevents current shock and voltage imbalances.
4.3. Series and Parallel Connections
Y&H LiFePO4 batteries can be connected in series or parallel to achieve desired voltage and capacity. A maximum of 4 batteries can be connected in series.
- Parallel Connection (12 Volts): Connect positive terminals together and negative terminals together. This increases total capacity while maintaining the same voltage.
- Series Connection (48 Volts): Connect the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of the next. This increases total voltage. Ensure all batteries are of the same voltage and capacity when connecting in series.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1. Charging
Use a compatible LiFePO4 charger. Refer to the specifications table for maximum charging current for your specific model.
- Charging Voltage: 14.6V for 12.8V models, 29.2V for 25.6V models.
- Charging Temperature: 0°C to 45°C.
5.2. Discharging
The battery can provide continuous and peak discharge currents as specified in the table below.
- Discharging Temperature: -10°C to 50°C.
5.3. USB Output
The integrated USB port provides a 5V/1A output, suitable for charging small electronic devices.
5.4. Real-Time Voltage Display
Monitor the battery's voltage using the built-in real-time display to keep track of its charge status.
6. Maintenance and Storage
6.1. General Maintenance
- Regularly inspect battery terminals for corrosion and ensure connections are tight.
- Keep the battery clean and dry.
- Avoid physical damage to the battery casing.
6.2. Storage Conditions
For optimal long-term storage and to maintain battery health, perform a complete charge and discharge cycle every 3 months, ensuring the battery is stored at more than 70% of its electricity capacity.
- Optimum Storage Temperature: 23 ± 5°C.
7. Troubleshooting and BMS Protection
Your Y&H LiFePO4 battery is equipped with a Smart Battery Management System (BMS) that provides comprehensive protection. If the battery stops functioning unexpectedly, the BMS may have triggered a protection mechanism.
The BMS protects against:
- Balanced Protection: Ensures cells are balanced for optimal performance.
- Over-charge Protection: Prevents damage from excessive charging voltage.
- Over-discharge Protection: Protects against draining the battery too low.
- Over-temperature Protection: Shuts down operation if temperature exceeds safe limits.
- Predischarge Protection: (Specific function may vary, generally related to safe initial discharge).
- Short Circuit Protection: Prevents damage from accidental short circuits.
- Over-current Protection: Limits current draw to safe levels.
- Power-off Protection: General safety shutdown.
If a protection is triggered, disconnect the load/charger and allow the battery to rest. The BMS will typically reset automatically once conditions return to normal. If issues persist, consult the warranty and support section.
