4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Wiring Suggestions

Proper wiring is crucial for the stable operation of your FPV system. Refer to the detailed wiring diagrams below for connections.

  • UART 1: For VTX HD / Analog

Important Note for ESC Wiring: For 6-inch and above setups, a 50V 470uF capacitor needs to be added. Solder the capacitor at the position indicated by the arrow in Figure 6.

5. Operating Instructions

The iFlight Borg Mini F7 Flight Controller runs on Betaflight or INAV firmware. Before first flight, ensure the following steps are completed:

  1. Firmware Flashing: Connect the FC to your computer via USB. Use the Betaflight Configurator or INAV Configurator to flash the appropriate firmware target (IFLIGHT_BLITZ_F722 for both).
  2. Configuration: Configure your flight controller settings, including PID tuning, motor direction, receiver setup, and OSD preferences, using the respective configurator software.
  3. ESC Calibration: Calibrate your ESCs to ensure proper motor synchronization. Refer to the ESC manufacturer's guidelines or Betaflight/INAV documentation for detailed calibration procedures.
  4. Pre-Flight Checks: Always perform thorough pre-flight checks, including propeller direction, motor spin direction, control surface response, and battery voltage, before arming your drone.

6. Maintenance

  • Keep the stack clean and free from dust and debris.
  • Regularly inspect all solder joints and connections for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Avoid exposing the stack to excessive moisture or extreme temperatures.
  • Ensure adequate airflow around the stack during operation to prevent overheating.

7. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check battery connections, ensure correct polarity, and inspect for any short circuits.
  • Motors Not Spinning: Verify ESC calibration, motor connections, and firmware settings (e.g., motor protocol, motor output mapping).
  • Unstable Flight: Recheck PID tuning, ensure propellers are balanced and undamaged, and verify flight controller mounting (e.g., soft mounting).
  • No Video Feed: Check VTX connections, power supply to VTX, and ensure VTX protocol is correctly configured in the FC.
  • Receiver Issues: Verify receiver wiring, binding status, and UART configuration in the flight controller.

8. User Tips

  • Always use a smoke stopper during initial power-up to prevent damage in case of a short circuit.
  • Keep your firmware updated to the latest stable versions of Betaflight or INAV for optimal performance and bug fixes.
  • Utilize the Blackbox feature to log flight data, which can be invaluable for diagnosing flight performance issues and tuning.
