Mounting

  1. Carefully stack the ESC and Flight Controller, ensuring proper alignment of the mounting holes.
  2. Use the provided M3*30 screws and rubber damping rings to secure the stack to your drone frame. The rubber damping rings help reduce vibrations to the flight controller.
  3. Secure with M3 locknuts. Do not overtighten.

Initial Configuration (Betaflight)

  1. Connect the Flight Controller to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Open the Betaflight Configurator software.
  3. Ensure the correct firmware (SPEDIX F722) is flashed. If not, download the latest stable version and flash it.
  4. Configure your receiver, motors, ESC protocol (e.g., DShot), OSD, and other peripherals according to your drone build and preferences.
  5. Perform a motor direction check and calibration as per Betaflight guidelines.

Operating Instructions

Pre-Flight Checks

  • Ensure all wiring is secure and free from shorts.
  • Verify battery is fully charged and correctly connected.
  • Check propeller orientation and tightness.
  • Confirm radio transmitter is powered on and bound to the receiver.
  • Perform a quick arming test (without propellers) to ensure motors spin correctly.

Flight

Once pre-flight checks are complete and you are in a safe, open area, you can proceed with flight. Arm your drone using your radio transmitter and gradually increase throttle. Always be aware of your surroundings and local regulations.

Post-Flight

  • Disarm your drone immediately after landing.
  • Disconnect the battery.
  • Inspect the drone for any damage or loose connections.
  • Review flight logs (if enabled) for performance analysis.

Maintenance

  • Regular Inspection: Periodically check all solder joints and wire connections for signs of wear, corrosion, or damage.
  • Cleaning: Keep the Flight Controller and ESC free from dust, dirt, and moisture. Use a soft brush or compressed air for cleaning. Avoid using liquids directly on the electronics.
  • Firmware Updates: Regularly check for new firmware releases for Betaflight (FC) and Bluejay (ESC). Updating firmware can provide performance improvements, bug fixes, and new features. Follow official update procedures carefully.
  • Component Replacement: If any component shows signs of malfunction or damage, replace it with an original or compatible part to ensure continued safe operation.

Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check battery connection, XT60 cable, and ensure no shorts on the power distribution board or ESC.
  • FC Not Connecting to Betaflight: Ensure correct USB cable is used (data cable, not just charging). Try a different USB port or computer. Reinstall VCP drivers if necessary.
  • Motors Not Spinning: Verify ESC calibration, motor direction in Betaflight, and correct ESC protocol. Check for continuity in motor wires and solder joints.
  • Unstable Flight: Recheck PID tuning, ensure propellers are balanced and undamaged, and verify FC mounting (damping rings). Check for motor desync issues.
  • OSD Not Displaying: Ensure OSD is enabled in Betaflight and video connections are correct.
  • No Video Feed: Check camera and VTX connections, ensure VTX is powered, and verify correct VTX channel/band.

User Tips

  • Always double-check wiring against the provided diagrams before applying power.
  • Use a smoke stopper during initial power-up to prevent damage in case of a short circuit.
  • Keep your firmware updated for optimal performance and access to the latest features.
  • Properly secure all components to minimize vibration, which can affect flight performance.
