4. Setup

4.1. Hardware Installation

If your unit was purchased without RAM or storage, follow these steps to install them. Always ensure the device is powered off and disconnected from the power source before opening the chassis.

  1. Open the Chassis: Carefully remove the screws securing the top cover of the mini PC.
  2. Install RAM: Locate the two DDR4 SODIMM slots (DIMM1/DIMM2 on the motherboard diagram). Insert the RAM modules firmly into the slots until the clips on both sides snap into place.
  3. Install Storage:
    • NVMe SSD: Locate the M.2 2280 NVMe slot. Insert the NVMe SSD at an angle and then gently push it down, securing it with the provided screw.
    • SATA SSD/HDD: Connect a 2.5-inch SATA drive to one of the SATA3.0 ports and the SATA_PWR1/2 connector on the motherboard. Secure the drive within the chassis if mounting points are available.
  4. Install 4G/5G LTE Module (Optional): If using a 4G/5G module, install it into the Mini PCIE slot or M.2 3052/3042 slot (USB signal) and connect the antennas. Insert the appropriate SIM card into the 4G_SIM or 5G_SIM slot on the rear panel.
  5. Close the Chassis: Replace the top cover and secure it with the screws.

4.2. Rack Mounting

The device supports 1U rack mounting. Attach the two provided rack hangers to the sides of the mini PC using the included screws. Then, mount the unit into a standard 19-inch server rack.

4.3. Connecting Peripherals

  1. Power: Connect the DC-12V power adapter to the power input port on the rear panel and then to a power outlet.
  2. Display: Connect a monitor to the VGA port on the rear panel if a local display is required.
  3. Console: For initial setup or command-line interface access, connect a serial console cable to the RJ45 console port on the front panel.
  4. USB Devices: Connect a keyboard and mouse to the USB 3.0 port on the front or USB 2.0 ports on the rear for local control.
  5. Network: Connect your network cables to the desired 1G RJ45 LAN ports (ETH0-ETH5) and/or 10G SFP+ ports (ETH6-ETH9) on the front panel.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Power On/Off

  • Power On: After connecting the power adapter, the device should automatically power on if 'Auto power on' is enabled in the BIOS. Otherwise, press the power button (if available, typically on the front panel).
  • Power Off: Perform a graceful shutdown through your operating system. Alternatively, press and hold the power button for a few seconds to force a shutdown.

5.2. BIOS Configuration

To access the BIOS/UEFI setup, press the 'DEL' or 'F2' key repeatedly during startup. The BIOS supports uEFI and offers various settings:

  • Boot Options: Configure boot order, enable/disable PXE boot.
  • Security: Enable/disable AES-NI for hardware-accelerated encryption.
  • Power Management: Configure 'Auto power on' behavior, Wake-on-LAN, and Real-Time Clock (RTC) settings.
  • Watchdog: Enable and configure the Watchdog timer for system stability.

5.3. Operating System Installation

This mini PC is compatible with various network-centric operating systems. The installation process will vary depending on your chosen OS (e.g., pfSense, OPNsense, ESXI, PVE, NAS Server software). Typically, you will need to:

  1. Create a bootable USB drive with your desired OS installer.
  2. Connect the USB drive to a USB port on the mini PC.
  3. Access the BIOS/UEFI and set the boot order to prioritize the USB drive.
  4. Save changes and exit BIOS to start the OS installation process.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions for your specific operating system.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

Regularly clean the exterior of the device with a soft, dry cloth. Ensure ventilation openings are free from dust and obstructions to maintain optimal airflow and prevent overheating. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the device.

6.2. Component Upgrades

RAM and storage components can be upgraded. Refer to Section 4.1 for installation guidance. Always ensure compatibility with the motherboard specifications (e.g., DDR4 SODIMM, M.2 2280 NVMe).

6.3. Firmware Updates

Periodically check the manufacturer's website for BIOS/UEFI firmware updates. Follow the provided instructions carefully when performing updates to avoid system instability.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Device does not power onNo power, faulty power adapter, 'Auto power on' disabled.Check power connections. Ensure power adapter is functional. Check BIOS settings for 'Auto power on'.
No display outputMonitor not connected, incorrect input selected on monitor, faulty VGA cable.Verify VGA cable connection. Select correct input on monitor. Test with another monitor/cable.
Operating system fails to bootIncorrect boot order, corrupted OS installation, missing drivers.Check BIOS boot order. Reinstall OS. Ensure all necessary drivers are installed post-OS installation.
Network connectivity issuesIncorrect cable, faulty port, misconfigured OS network settings.Verify network cable connections. Test different ports. Check OS network configuration.
System instability/crashesOverheating, faulty RAM/storage, outdated firmware.Ensure proper ventilation. Run memory diagnostics. Update BIOS firmware.

7.1. CMOS Reset

If you encounter persistent boot issues or incorrect BIOS settings, you may need to clear the CMOS. Locate the 'CLR_CMOS' jumper on the motherboard (refer to Figure 5). With the device powered off and unplugged, move the jumper from its default position to the clear position for a few seconds, then return it to default. This will reset BIOS settings to factory defaults.
