1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the setup, operation, and maintenance of your new Expandable Cordless Phone System, Model D1003. 3. Product Overview

The D1003 Cordless Phone System consists of a handset and a base unit (cradle). Below are the key components and their functions.

Handset Components:

  1. RECEIVER: Earpiece for listening during calls.
  2. LCD: 3-line display for information and menu navigation.
  3. INTERCOM: Button for initiating intercom calls between handsets.
  4. MENU/OK/MUTE: Accesses menus, confirms selections, and mutes the microphone during a call.
  5. UP: Navigates up in menus or increases volume.
  6. TALKER (Green Call Button): Initiates or answers a call.
  7. DOWN: Navigates down in menus or decreases volume.
  8. NUMERICAL KEYPAD: For dialing numbers and text input.
  9. FLASH/CLEAR: Used for flash function in a call or to clear input.
  10. SPK. HF (Speakerphone/Hands-free): Activates or deactivates the speakerphone.
  11. MICROPHONE: For speaking during calls.
  12. IN USE/CHARGE LED: Indicates when the phone is in use or charging.
  13. PHONEBOOK: Accesses the phone book memory.
  14. HANG UP/POWER OFF (Red Call Button): Ends a call or powers the handset on/off.
  15. REDIAL/PAUSE: Redials the last number or inserts a pause during dialing.

Base Unit Components:

  1. SPEAKER: For paging or speakerphone function from the base.
  2. PAGER: Button to locate misplaced handsets.
  3. DC6V: Power input port for the power adapter.
  4. TELEPHONE LINE: RJ11 input port for connecting to the telephone wall jack.

4. Setup Guide

Follow these steps to set up your cordless phone system:

4.1. Battery Installation and Initial Charge

  1. Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the handset.
  2. Insert the two supplied AAA rechargeable batteries, ensuring correct polarity (+/-).
  3. Close the battery compartment cover.
  4. Place the handset on the charging cradle. The 'IN USE/CHARGE LED' on the handset should illuminate, indicating it is charging.
  5. Important: For the first use, charge the handset for at least 12 hours to ensure optimal battery performance.

4.2. Connecting the Base Unit

  1. Connect one end of the telephone line cable to the 'TELEPHONE LINE' port on the base unit.
  2. Connect the other end of the telephone line cable to your telephone wall jack.
  3. Connect the power cord to the 'DC6V' port on the base unit.
  4. Plug the power adapter into a standard electrical outlet (100-240V).

4.3. Handset Registration (for additional handsets)

Your primary handset should be pre-registered. If you purchase additional handsets (up to a maximum of 5), you will need to register them to the base unit. Refer to the 'Operating Instructions' section for detailed steps on handset registration.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1. Basic Call Functions

  • Making a Call: Press the green TALKER button, then dial the number using the numerical keypad. Alternatively, dial the number first (pre-dial), then press TALKER.
  • Answering a Call: When the phone rings, press the green TALKER button.
  • Ending a Call: Press the red HANG UP/POWER OFF button or place the handset back on the cradle.
  • Redial: Press the REDIAL/PAUSE button to redial the last outgoing number.
  • Hands-free (Speakerphone): During a call, press the SPK. HF button to switch to speakerphone mode. Press it again to switch back to the earpiece.
  • Mute: During a call, press the MENU/OK/MUTE button to mute your microphone. Press again to unmute.

5.2. Advanced Call Features

  • Intercom Call: Press the INTERCOM button, then dial the number of the desired handset (e.g., 2 for handset 2).
  • Call Transfer: During an external call, press INTERCOM, dial the desired handset number, and once the other handset answers, press TALKER to transfer the call.
  • Three-Way Conference Call: This feature allows an external call to be connected with two handsets. During an external call, initiate an intercom call with another handset. Once the second handset answers, press and hold the MENU/OK/MUTE button to establish the conference call.

5.3. Phone Book

The phone book can store up to 50 entries with a maximum of 12 characters for names and 32 digits for numbers.

  • Accessing Phone Book: Press the PHONEBOOK button.
  • Adding an Entry: Navigate to the 'Add New' option in the phone book menu, enter the name and number, then save.
  • Dialing from Phone Book: Select the desired entry and press the green TALKER button.

5.4. Settings and Customization

  • Volume Adjustment: During a call, use the UP/DOWN buttons to adjust the earpiece or hands-free volume (5 levels). Ringing tone volume is also adjustable.
  • Ringing Tones: Choose from 10 different ringing tones. Different melodies can be set for different call types.
  • Language Settings: The phone supports 16 interface languages including Portuguese, Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Dutch, Hungarian, Greek, Polish, Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Turkish, Russian, and Ukrainian. Access this setting via the MENU.
  • LCD Backlight: The LCD features a backlight for improved visibility.
  • Alarm Clock: Set an alarm via the menu options.
  • Dialing Mode: Switch between Tone and Pulse dialing modes as required by your telephone service.
  • Flash Time: Adjustable flash time (100/300/600/1000ms) for network services.
  • Auto/Manual Answering: Configure whether calls are answered automatically when lifted from the cradle or manually.
  • Keypad Lock: Lock the keypad to prevent accidental dialing.
  • Dialing Barring: Set up restrictions for outgoing calls.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Wipe the handset and base unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Battery Care: Use only the specified rechargeable batteries. If the phone will not be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.
  • Environment: Keep the phone away from water, high humidity, direct sunlight, and extreme temperatures.
  • Disposal: Dispose of batteries and the product responsibly according to local regulations.
