SINOTIMER SVP-916 Voltage Surge Protector User Manual

Dual LED Display Voltage Surge Protector with Limit Current Protection

1. Introduction

The SINOTIMER SVP-916 is an automatic over-voltage and under-voltage protector designed for single-phase AC 230V, 50/60Hz electrical systems. It is suitable for loads with a rated working current of 63A or less. This device is primarily used for residential household box entry or for protecting distribution lines of single-phase electrical equipment against over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current conditions.

Its main function is to instantaneously cut off the power supply when the circuit experiences over-voltage, under-voltage, or over-current problems, thereby protecting connected electrical equipment from damage. Furthermore, the protector is equipped with an automatic recovery feature, which restores the power supply once the circuit voltage returns to normal operating parameters.

2. Safety Information

WARNING: Electrical shock hazard. Installation and servicing should only be performed by qualified personnel.

  • Always disconnect power before installing or servicing the device.
  • Ensure all wiring connections are secure and comply with local electrical codes.
  • Do not operate the device if it appears damaged.
  • This device is designed for indoor use only.
  • Keep children away from electrical installations.

4. Installation

The SVP-916 is designed for easy installation on a standard 35mm DIN rail.

4.1 Mounting

  1. Ensure all power to the circuit is disconnected at the main breaker.
  2. Locate a suitable position on a 35mm DIN rail within your electrical panel.
  3. Attach the SVP-916 to the DIN rail by hooking the top edge onto the rail and pressing down until the bottom clip snaps into place.

4.2 Wiring

Connect the incoming power supply to the "IN" terminals and the load to be protected to the "OUT" terminals. Ensure correct polarity (Neutral to N, Live to L).

  • Connect the incoming Neutral wire to the "N IN" terminal.
  • Connect the incoming Live wire to the "L IN" terminal.
  • Connect the outgoing Neutral wire (to load) to the "N OUT" terminal.
  • Connect the outgoing Live wire (to load) to the "L OUT" terminal.
  • Tighten all terminal screws securely.

Important: After wiring, double-check all connections before restoring power.

5. Operation

Once installed and powered on, the SVP-916 will display real-time voltage and current. You can adjust its protection parameters using the front panel buttons.

5.1 Initial Power-On

When you first connect the product and restore power, you must wait approximately 1 minute. The device will perform an internal check, and the red light will turn off, indicating it is ready for operation.

5.2 Display Readings

  • The upper LED display shows the current voltage (V).
  • The lower LED display shows the current flowing through the circuit (A).
  • Indicators next to the display show "OV fast", "UV slow", "OC fast", and "ADJ" (adjustment mode).

5.3 Parameter Adjustment

To enter adjustment mode, press and hold the "SET" button. Use the "▲" (Up) and "▼" (Down) buttons to change values. Press "SET" again to cycle through parameters and save changes.

6. Maintenance

The SINOTIMER SVP-916 is designed for maintenance-free operation. However, periodic checks are recommended:

  • Ensure the device and its connections are free from dust and debris.
  • Periodically check terminal connections for tightness to prevent loose contacts.
  • Visually inspect the device for any signs of physical damage or discoloration.

If any issues are observed, disconnect power immediately and consult a qualified electrician.

7. Troubleshooting

  • Device not powering on after installation: Ensure all wiring is correct and secure. Remember the initial 1-minute power-on delay after first connection.
  • Device trips frequently: Check the set over-voltage, under-voltage, and over-current parameters. They might be set too sensitively for your electrical environment or connected load. Verify that the connected load does not exceed the device's maximum current rating.
  • Power does not restore after a trip: The device has an automatic recovery feature with a configurable delay. Wait for the "Recovery Delay Time" to elapse. If power still doesn't restore, check if the fault condition (e.g., over-voltage) has truly cleared.
  • Display is blank or erratic: Disconnect power, wait a few minutes, and then restore power. If the issue persists, the device may be faulty.

For persistent issues, consult a qualified electrician or contact SINOTIMER customer support.

9. User Tips

  • Customizing Protection: Take time to understand your connected appliances' typical operating voltage and current. Adjust the protection thresholds (OV, UV, OC) slightly above and below these normal values to provide effective protection without nuisance tripping.
  • Recovery Delay: The "Recovery Delay Time" is crucial. Setting it too short might cause rapid on/off cycling during unstable power conditions, which can be harmful to some appliances. A default of 60 seconds is often suitable for most applications.
  • Monitoring: Regularly check the voltage and current readings on the display to ensure your electrical system is operating within expected parameters.
