1. Introduction

The ARTBULL S8 Land Meter GPS Survey Instrument is a professional, rechargeable GNSS device designed for precise land surveying, area measurement, mountain slope calculation, and distance measurement. This manual provides detailed instructions to help you effectively use and maintain your S8 instrument.

2. Safety Information

  • Do not disassemble or modify the device. Unauthorized modifications can void the warranty and pose safety risks.

4. Product Overview

4.1. Device Layout

The device features a clear 2.4-inch outdoor high-definition black-and-white screen and intuitive button controls for easy operation.

  • GNSS: Global Navigation Satellite System indicator.

5. Setup

5.1. Charging the Battery

  1. Connect the provided USB data cable to the S8 instrument's data interface.
  2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the charger, and plug the charger into a power outlet.
  3. The battery icon on the screen will indicate charging status. Ensure the device is fully charged before first use.

5.2. Powering On/Off

  1. To power on, press and hold the Power button (Power button icon) until the screen lights up.
  2. To power off, press and hold the Power button until the device shuts down.

6. Operating Instructions

The S8 instrument offers various functions accessible via its main menu. Use the Up/Down arrow buttons to navigate and the Enter button to select.

6.1. Waypoint Function

The Waypoint function allows you to record and manage specific geographical points.

  • Establish Waypoint: Record your current location as a waypoint. The device provides varied and accurate location information, including coordinates, altitude, and time.
  • Check Waypoint: View previously saved waypoints.
  • Manual Input: Manually input navigation points.

6.2. Area Measurement

To measure an area:

  1. Select 'Area' from the main menu.
  2. Walk the perimeter of the area you wish to measure.
  3. The device will calculate and display the area.

6.3. Distance Measurement

To measure distance:

  1. Select 'Distance' from the main menu.
  2. Walk the path you wish to measure.
  3. The device will calculate and display the distance.

6.4. Route and Track Function

The S8 allows for route customization and real-time track recording.

  • Customize Route: Edit navigation points to create a custom route.
  • Real-time Track Recording: Record your travel path. The trajectory will be displayed in real time during the measurement process, and past measurement figures can be viewed in statistical records.

6.5. Lofting Function

The lofting function helps in accurately following navigation points.

  • Four Patterns: Select existing navigation points as lofting points, generate equal distance lofting points automatically, set the distance to generate lofting points automatically, or define a user-defined distance for single segments.
  • Two Steps: Select lofting mode and then follow the accurate lofting with navigation.

6.6. Data Record and Export

The device records various data points and allows for export.

  • Data Statistics: Area Statistics, Distance Statistics.
  • Records: Area Record (99 pieces), Waypoint Record (2000 pieces), Distance Record (99 pieces), Track Record (100 pieces), Route Record (Maximum Number Of Editions 200, Single Route Up To 400 Points).
  • Data Export: Data can be exported via the USB interface. Refer to the device's settings for specific export options and compatible software.

7. Maintenance

  • Clean the device regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Store the device in a cool, dry place when not in use.
  • Avoid dropping or subjecting the device to strong impacts.
  • Periodically check the charging port for debris and clean if necessary.
  • For optimal battery life, avoid fully discharging the battery frequently.

8. Troubleshooting

8.1. Device Not Powering On

  • Ensure the battery is sufficiently charged. Connect the device to a charger and wait for a few minutes before attempting to power on again.
  • Check if the battery is properly inserted.

8.2. Inaccurate Readings

  • Ensure you have a clear line of sight to the sky for optimal GNSS signal reception. Avoid areas with tall buildings, dense foliage, or strong electromagnetic interference.
  • Calibrate the barometric altimetry if altitude readings seem incorrect.
  • Check HDOP settings for user-defined adjustments.

8.3. Data Export Issues

  • Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the device and the computer.
  • Check your computer's device manager to confirm the S8 is recognized.
  • Refer to the device's settings for data export options and any required software.
