Safety Information

Always observe safety precautions to prevent serious injury or death. This engine produces carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operating the engine in an enclosed area can kill you in minutes. Never operate the engine indoors or in poorly ventilated areas.

General Safety Guidelines:

  • Read and understand the entire manual before operating the engine.
  • Ensure the engine is placed on a level surface before adding fuel or oil.
  • Keep children and pets away from the engine during operation.
  • Do not touch hot engine parts. The engine and exhaust system become very hot during operation and remain hot for a while after stopping.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), such as safety glasses and gloves.
  • Never refuel a hot or running engine. Allow the engine to cool down before adding fuel.
  • Store fuel in an approved container in a well-ventilated area, away from ignition sources.

Caution: High temperature parts. Do not touch during or immediately after operation.

Setup and Preparation

Before starting the engine for the first time, perform the following steps:

  1. Unpacking and Inspection: Carefully remove the engine from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Ensure all components are present.
  2. Add Engine Oil:
    • Place the engine on a level surface.
    • Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.
    • Fill with approximately 0.6 liters of recommended engine oil (SAE 10W-30, 15W-40, API SJ or higher). Do not overfill.
    • Check the oil level with the dipstick; it should be at the upper limit mark.
    • Securely replace the oil filler cap/dipstick.
  3. Add Fuel:
    • Ensure the engine is off and cool.
    • Remove the fuel tank cap.
    • Fill the fuel tank with unleaded gasoline. Do not overfill; leave space for fuel expansion.
    • Securely replace the fuel tank cap.
  4. Battery Connection (for Electric Start):
    • Connect the positive (+) battery cable to the positive terminal on the engine's starter motor.
    • Connect the negative (-) battery cable to a suitable ground point on the engine frame.
    • Ensure connections are tight and secure.

Operating Instructions

Starting the Engine (Electric Start):

  1. Check Oil and Fuel Levels: Ensure both are at appropriate levels.
  2. Open Fuel Valve: Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
  3. Set Choke: If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position. If the engine is warm, the choke may not be necessary.
  4. Set Throttle: Move the throttle lever to the "FAST" or "START" position.
  5. Engage Electric Start: Insert the key into the ignition switch and turn it to the "START" position. Release the key once the engine starts. Do not crank for more than 5 seconds at a time. If the engine does not start, wait 10 seconds before trying again.
  6. Adjust Choke: Once the engine starts and runs smoothly, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
  7. Adjust Throttle: Adjust the throttle to the desired operating speed.

Starting the Engine (Recoil Start):

  1. Check Oil and Fuel Levels: Ensure both are at appropriate levels.
  2. Open Fuel Valve: Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
  3. Set Choke: If the engine is cold, move the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position.
  4. Set Throttle: Move the throttle lever to the "FAST" or "START" position.
  5. Pull Recoil Starter: Grasp the recoil starter handle firmly. Pull slowly until resistance is felt, then pull quickly and smoothly. Allow the rope to rewind slowly. Repeat until the engine starts.
  6. Adjust Choke: Once the engine starts and runs smoothly, gradually move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
  7. Adjust Throttle: Adjust the throttle to the desired operating speed.

Stopping the Engine:

  1. Reduce Engine Speed: Move the throttle lever to the "SLOW" or "IDLE" position.
  2. Turn Off Ignition: For electric start models, turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position. For recoil start models, move the engine switch to the "OFF" position.
  3. Close Fuel Valve: Turn the fuel valve to the "OFF" position to prevent fuel leakage and carburetor issues during storage.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your engine. Always perform maintenance with the engine off and cool.

Maintenance Schedule:

ItemEvery UseEvery 25 Hrs / MonthlyEvery 50 Hrs / 3 MonthsEvery 100 Hrs / 6 MonthsEvery 300 Hrs / Annually
Check Engine Oil Level
Clean Air Filter
Change Engine Oil
Check Spark Plug
Clean Fuel Filter

Detailed Maintenance Procedures:

  • Engine Oil Change:
    • Run the engine for a few minutes to warm the oil.
    • Place a suitable container under the oil drain plug.
    • Remove the oil filler cap/dipstick.
    • Allow all oil to drain completely.
    • Replace the drain plug and refill with fresh, recommended oil (0.6 L).
    • Check the oil level and replace the filler cap.
  • Air Filter Cleaning:
    • Remove the air filter cover and elements.
    • Clean foam elements with warm, soapy water, rinse, and allow to air dry completely. Lightly oil with engine oil and squeeze out excess.
    • Clean paper elements by tapping them gently. Replace if heavily soiled or damaged.
    • Reinstall the air filter elements and cover.
  • Spark Plug Inspection:
    • Remove the spark plug cap and then the spark plug using a spark plug wrench.
    • Inspect for carbon deposits, wear, or damage. Clean with a wire brush if necessary.
    • Check the spark plug gap (refer to engine specifications for correct gap, typically 0.7-0.8mm). Adjust if needed.
    • Reinstall the spark plug and tighten to the specified torque. Reattach the spark plug cap.

User Tips

  • For optimal performance, always use fresh, high-quality unleaded gasoline. Stale fuel can cause starting difficulties and carburetor problems.
  • When storing the engine for extended periods, drain the fuel tank and carburetor, or use a fuel stabilizer to prevent fuel degradation.
  • Keep the engine clean, especially the cooling fins, to ensure efficient heat dissipation and prevent overheating.
  • Periodically check all fasteners for tightness, as vibrations during operation can cause them to loosen.
